it's only 3 movies (that a lot of ppl believe to be terrible), they've only been around for a few years, and yet there's more discussion here than for TOS or TNG. I'm also pretty surprised by the traffic for VOY.

how many of you like these reboots more than TOS, TNG, or even DS9? I'd actually take ENT or VOY over these as well....

It's a brave, new world. There are new vistas to explore. And it's the most recent Trek addition.

Sometimes it feels like I have to scrape to find new things to talk about TOS. Not enough of a fans for the other shows to think about them myself.

Also, I personally feel the reboot movies are a lot more interesting than those old shows. But, my opinion *shrug*.

It's new, so of course there will discussion. You don't even have to like it to write a post about it. The new show is creating a lot of traffic down in Future of Trek as well.

It's not about which shows we like more. It's about what lends itself to fresh conversations that we haven't already had 500 times before.

I mean, I love TOS, which remains near and dear to my heart, but I'm not sure I ever need to discuss the lack of shuttlecrafts in "The Enemy Within" again or make fun of "Spock's Brain" one more time.

And, hey, did you know that there was an interracial kiss in "Plato's Stepchildren"? There's something that's never been discussed before. :)

You can't really blame people for wanting to talk about something new.

Well we have had 20-50 years to discuss those shows, the new movies are still somewhat fresh.. Of course we will discuss them. We finished who's the better Captain, Picard or Kirk ages ago.

Sort of how people talk about Cleveland and Golden State in the NBA over the past couple of years instead of all the Great Bulls teams of the 90s or the Laker teams of the 80s. Go figure huh? It's called current events.

There is probably nothing you can talk about regarding the older movies or series that hasn't already discussed in detail . . . . and probably multiple times too.

Another thing you might not realize is that now that the older shows are off the air they really aren't drawing too many new fans to the franchise. At least nothing to compare to the exposure from the release of a worldwide motion picture. And those old shows . . . once you watch them . . . they aren't changing. There are no new episodes being added to spark new discussions.

but this site has been around forever, I see "Joined: 2001"

given there has been so many more years for those forums to have accumulated messages, and so few for these 3 movies to have done the same, I'd still expect a lot more over there. unless they get deleted or something... really interesting to me is the lower amount of discussions in VOY combined with a higher # of msgs. more rabid fanbase, or what?

Give me a break. I roughed out the last chapter of the next LIBRARIANS book this afternoon. :)
You're doing better than me. I'm supposed to be writing thematic essays in preparation for PhD comp exams. Instead I'm posting on a Trek BBS. Of course, your writing topic sounds more entertaining than mine.

really? it's over? :0

who won?

Something new will inevitably draw more fresh discussions than something old that has been discussed for years and years on this forum.

Those topic and post figures might not be entirely accurate. The board has had old threads and posts removed both accidentally and deliberately many times over the years, not to mention changing the software it runs on. I have no idea what the oldest posts still accessible are, but I'll bet they aren't from 2001. Who knows how we've survive without the documented history of a hundred arguments over whether "Broken Bow" depicted a suitably disastrous first contact with the Klingons, or that the NX-01 isn't canon because it wasn't seen on the display in the Rec Room in TMP.

Just imagine how busy the Discovery forum will be once that show gets started. New episodes on a weekly bases for three straight months. Bicuspid horse cocks, my wrists will hurt from all that typing.

Well firstly, you should be aware that the numbers of posts have been culled at different times and for various reasons. The last time this happened, the busiest forum: STNG lost many older posts.

The JJ films are the most popular, best reviewed films of the bunch. It's not a surprise they get more traffic.

Well, I only got about a thousand words done today, due to home repairs, two trips to the bank, etc.

On the other hand, I also reviewed the final revisions to a book I'm editing for Tor and passed the manuscript onto Production. Now I just need to send it out for quotes . ...

Golly, you mean nobody wants to talk about "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" or "Turkish Star Trek" again, for the umpty-umpth time?

Yeah.

Anyway, I think the OP's questions have been more or less answered and, since this forum is for discussing the movies (rather than for questioning people's motives for wanting to talk about the movies instead of some other subject) I think we're done here. Thread closed!
