IDW Star Trek Ongoing...

Although, I can just imagine Picard reuniting with his friends in Family (which should have been sometime in January 2367).
"Jean-Luc, been a long time. How were your holidays?"
"I was captured and assimilated by the Borg and forced to preside over the destruction of 39 Starfleet ships and nearly launched an attack on Earth itself."
"So... got out of Christmas shopping again, did you?"

speaking of Picard's time, with the Enterprise-A being launched 23 years ahead of schedule does this mean by the time 2364 comes around Picard will be in command of the Enterprise-E or F?

Depends. It's possible an Enterprise or two or three might actually last long enough to be decommissioned, at which point we might still end up with an Enterprise D being launched in 2364.

Why won't there be a ship named Stargazer?

I think the idea is, since the Stargazer was Picard's first command, maybe in this universe it'll be called the Enterprise instead. Somehow.

Although that would pretty much entail Picard being even younger than Kirk was in the '09 movie. And becoming the captain in almost exactly the same way.

There's a bit of background audio when the crew first disembarks at Yorktown with the loudspeaker saying something about the Stargazer (complete with correct registry number), so Starfleet's pace of shipbuilding certainly picked up earlier than it did before.

Heh. It'll probably be ruled out by the Blu-Ray, once we can hear what the announcer was saying about it, but wouldn't it be wild if the Stargazer was (going to be) the new ship they were building at Yorktown?

Bernd Schneider said on Ex Astris Scientia he'd heard NCC-2893, but I hadn't found a reference to it until now. It's not on Memory Alpha/Beta yet.

The finale was sweet. An overly simple conclusion but that has been something that has been a mild annoyance throughout the whole run. Thumbs up for a cameo from my favourite yeoman.

I've enjoyed the run but I do still wish that we'd had more three and four issue stories. I would have liked to see one or two more re-tellings of TOS stories interspersed as well. The last one was the Tholian Web, I think.

I will buy the re-launch initially at least, to see where they're going.

I'm disappointed Waypoint #2 will be two TOS stories. After getting TOS and TNG in #1, I was hoping at least one of the stories in #2 would be DS9, Voy, or Ent. They did say the series will cover all of the Star Trek Universe, so I was hoping they'd focus more on the other series since they've already done tons of TOS and TNG comics.

From the Waypoint #2 description:

"Learn the backstory of Yeoman Leslie Thompson, the first and only redshirt to die in The Original Series."

I think that was meant to read "only female redshirt." Isn't it weird how, when people leave just one word out of a sentence, it's usually the single word most important to conveying the desired meaning?
All the other redshirts pulled a Galloway. They died, and then showed up later.
