*Potential Spoilers* What will the Alternate Enterprise-A look like

Any new tech the vengeance had to offer has already been disseminated by now. It's been two and a half years since they started the five year mission, which means it's been... three and a half years since that happened?

I'm glad that the design is mostly just a revision, and tweaking. The old movie Enterprise will always be my favorite, and trying to graft bits of it onto the new aesthetic just wouldn't work.

I am interested in seeing whether if/how they change the interior sets. Personally I'm perfectly happy for them to retain the existing bridge design as it's grown on me over the last seven years, but it'd still be cool to see if they take the opportunity to revamp or redecorate it somehow.

I'd like to see the bridge de-cluttered a bit. Make Spock Uhura stations more visable on a shot from view screen in

BUT my big wish is different color combo for the corridor walls n floors. White walls w black floors doesn't look good imo.

Would like to see Kirk's quarters too. Chillin then called from bridge then goes to it

And if the do a 4th one (please God) keep pushing the technology forward. I don't know if it's too much to ask, but make it as futuristic as feasible.

One problem I have with NuTrek is that they don't show too much of the ship's interior other than the usual places such as Engineering, Sick bay, Transporter room and of course the bridge. I for one would've loved to see other parts of the ship such as Kirk/Spock quarters, recreation room etc. It would just add more depth and scale to the ship and make it feel like its a home away from home on screen. Probably too much to ask to show all that in a single movie, but they could've shown parts of the ship across two to three movies. They did that with the Ent-E. Showing more parts of the ship that were never seen before with each movie through FC, Insurrection and Nemesis..

Why would other locations look significantly different? Besides, we didn't see many of these locations in previous Treks.

But vis-a-vis the new movie alone, we've seen:

the atrium (a new addition to starship interiors), Kirk's quarters, some lounge where Kirk and Bones drink, "auxiliary power" (or whatever) where they do the saucer separation, a science lab / archive where Spock catalogues the weapon artifact, etc...

Those areas of a ship were always easy to do in a 20+ episode TV season. Not as easy in a 2 hour movie every 3 years.

As far as the E-E, those movies were still a bit like the series wheras the current movies are go-go-go action films for the most part.

Apparently you didn't realize how many new interiors we saw in Beyond, including a whole new engineering section (not a brewery).

Quite a few of the new areas are seen in this short FX documentary:

RAMA

I didn't notice any differences when I was watching the film. I'd hoped the ship would have had some big changes.
There are quite a few changes actually. The most notable for most people are the smaller, rounder nacelles with the TSO era style caps. For me, the more beveled saucer is a huge difference.

I think I was hoping too much for an almost straight/mildly updated version of the TOS Enterprise, at least with the copper deflector dish.

Loved the video, the engineering section is now more akin to what we see in Next Generation which is a good thing, even though I didn't mind the brewery.

You could say the brewery is still there but it's been hidden behind all the walls and partitions.

I was hoping the A would be the size of the Vengeance.

I think the Enterprise (A) @ 700 + meters is big enough as it is. The A looks approachable, yet solid and built to last this time round.

I'd leave the 1km + designs for the villain bruiser ships and space stations.

A pity they have to create massive "boss battle" bruiser ships.

I much preferred two equally matched vessels trying to outwit each other.

Star Trek was always best as Master and Commander - that's its style.

Beyond put the whole big bad ship angle to bed. The idea of thousands of small ships going at you like a swarm of angry wasps is a fantastic change of direction.

I do seriously doubt we'll see 'equally matched vessels' situation like we did in TWOK. Future Trek movies are not going to be very marketable by pitching some random Klingon in a pitiful D7 cruiser against Kirk when in the previous 3 films he has defeated much more deadly & unfamiliar enemies. All very anti-climatic.

I predicted on this forum 3 years ago that Star Trek '3', the Enterprise would be destroyed early in the movie, and that would bring the story of where the crew would have to work together without her.

The 'A' will unlikely be in any real danger in the next one (she technically should have all the tools to fight-off any vessel in her path this time) - so the threat element will likely be on the head of Kirk/George Kirk with some Time travel/Q/Omnipotent force in the equation.

I've personally never liked unfeeling swarms - it is a massively over-used trope - usually a faceless enemy you couldn't care less about - loved by some video games for obvious reasons.

That said, I loved Beyond; even a bad trope can be written/directed well, and linked to a good plot.

BasI personally like it most when the battle is a battle of wits between equal opponents - two of Star Trek's most famous battles were like that - Balance of Terror and The Wrath of Khan. When your enemy has admirable traits, and character of it's own, thats when villains are best. A battle of ships is really a battle of characters, their differing flaws, and very interpersonally dramatic.

Stakes have never been important - but the audience's emotional reactions are - so having a character you can sympathise with on each end of the fight, is very effective. You can always link the outcome of their battle to high stakes if you want.

They also mention "level 31" during the boarding. The 1701 has at least 31 decks, probably more. The Enterprise D only had 36.

The A is even larger, so this thing is huge...er.

The Enterprise crew were always at their best when they are against the odds facing unfamiliar threats. Think V'ger, the Doomsday machine, a deranged Romulan 120+ years from the future, M5 and the Whale probe.

Krall's swarm makes another addition to the list above. And as Spock commented during engagement, the Enterprise was not prepared to deal with anything like that. Re-visiting familiar enemies and familiar ships sucker punching the Enterprise adds nothing that we haven't got from the prime universe.

If we look at 'The Balance of Terror', which a great episode because of the thought that went into the mindset of the Romulan 'villains', it should be treated as a great standalone episode and was important for the development of TOS series universe at the time.

As for TWOK, we have 2 TWOKs (if we count STID).

Having Kirk getting into a chin stroking battle situation battle does nothing new (we all know Kirk is cunning and can handle situations), there is no need to play that broken record and it is certainly not what the franchise is about.

This is Star Trek, not Space Battle Tactics Masterclass.

I agree, Balance of Terror is considered one of the most popular of the TOS episodes and one of my favs but that format would probably not work for the movies. However, for ST:Discovery then maybe.........
