Rewatching Voyager

This really isn't a 'gush' thread. If you notice some of our other posts we point out what some of us believe to be shortcomings.

Hey I just called In The Flesh frustrating. I'm writing my honest thoughts about the episodes. I liked Voyager but it did have shortcomings, like all the series.

I don't remember much about in the flesh to be perfectly honest, but I quite like 8472, so I probably quite liked the episode. This issue is also tackled in the relaunch books, in a rather unusual fashion actually :P

And yeah we all like different episodes we all see shortcomings from different angles. All though somehow Mr Paris always seems to turn it into a good thing haha :p (Except that is in the case of fury)

Just a friendly warning even though I won't see it until maybe a month from now, I HATE Fury. :)

If anyone LIKES Fury raise your hand.

I doubt anyone will. It's awful. And yet another ship wrecking episode that can't justify how they keep functioning with so many ruined decks ;)

Fury? What is this episode of which you are speaking? I think you all are making this stuff up. There is no episode called 'Fury'.

:D

And my enthusiasm proved to be pretty off-putting.
But no one seemed to want to say anything to the new guy. I thought I'd kind of try to make him feel part of the team - a very Chakotay-like thought, isn't it? - and see how this ended.
Next time a potential new member presents, I'll stay silent until one of you guys has started bashing an episode. Perhaps that'll help.

And yes, I love Voyager the way it is (except FURY). There are minor things that I notice (like how the number of the crew keeps fluctuating or if a person said something in Season 2, why didn't (s)he behave in accordingly in Season 5), but to me these are small nuisances not even worth pointing out.
Actually before I had joined these VOY fora (first on IMDB, but I never actually joined it - I was only a reader; then on FACEBOOK, which, as you know was kind enough to throw me out due to a certain person's not liking me; and now here), I never even noticed most of the things people keep pointing out as negative things about Voyager. And this coming from someone who is watching the show for the 35th time!
And even after I read about those things, most of the times I felt like who cares when the episode in itself is a very entertaining one? For me, this is the big appeal of Voyager: it might be inconsistent and with little continuity but I love every minute of it. It's so enjoyable!
Unfortunately it's not the case with the other Trek shows. They are simply boring. I believe it when people say that in a lot of ways those were written much better ... but entertainment is the operative word for me and I'm afraid I only get that from Voyager ...

But I'm gushing again ... so I'd better stop. How many people are going to be put off by my enthusiasm this time, I wonder ...

Loooool I literally thought that's a nice way of introducing using your wall papers as well, and then he was like oh I'll take it elsewhere. Defenitly not your fault xD your post was really nice and yes very chakotay like :p and we can gush all we want :p

And I feel when fury comes around i am going to be the most positive about it, that's not to say I like it but I don't completely hate it

Once Upon A Time

There's a lot to like about this episode, but why, oh why did it have to involve Flotter and some stupid holodeck characters. I get the need to distract Naomi, but these characters didn't fit Naomi's profile in the episode. We have this smart resourceful girl and the people who are associated with her act stupid around her. Of course I say this when I'm not a parent so maybe my perspective is off but it felt like in terms of playful distractions, Naomi deserved better. Heck, I would have liked that Seven/Naomi relationship to start in this episode, even though that scene between them was fun.

The best part of this episode was the serious moments, Neelix's struggle of whether or not to tell Naomi about what happened to her mother and how it tied into his backstory of the Metreon Cascade. I loved that scene between him and Janeway, where he blows up and Janeway doesn't. In fact, the way Janeway acts towards Neelix is a nice example of what kind of leader she is. I also loved the scene between Wildman and Tuvok in the shuttle, which I would put on equal footing with the Janeway scene. Yes, Tuvok in Vulcan, and yes he deals in everything with logic, but the way he responds to her on her level as a father is equally as logical and full of wisdom.

Timeless

Here is Harry Kim's best episode and one of Voyager's classic episodes. I remember when this episode aired, and how it was celebrating Voyager's 100 episodes, and I really do think they were fortunate to have an episode like this which can definitely be considered a classic. Here we have a time travel story that works really well, and gives Harry Kim a backbone. This is the Harry Kim I wanted to see for the remainder of the series. Maybe not as dark, but assertive, emotional, maybe even a little dark that he is still an ensign and will never get promoted. This really is Voyager at it's best and this is Kim at his best. Loved the Doctor's pep talk, and the crash scene with Voyager on the planet really does get me every time.

Also, with Timeless we've seen my top 5 (And it won't change) episodes of Voyager in the series:

Scorpion I
Scorpion II
Timeless
Before and After
Living Witness

I think if I were to have a top 10, there would be later episodes in it, but that's why I'm doing this rewatch. We're now heading into the aspects of Voyager I haven't seen in a long time, and I'm especially looking forward to revisiting Season 6 and 7 again.

Mega thread? Never even heard of it ...
Is there a prize for it if we reach that status? :)

It's basically like a massive forum post, I think you need a certain number of pages. I'll have a look p

Now once upon a time had a nice story focused on Samantha Wildman. I have really grown to like her character through the books and through the show. Whenever she us involved her input is normally insightful and she is a genunially lovely person :). Now I've said before I'm a massive fan of the holodeck, this is probably my least favorite usage but that's not to say I don't like it and I understand why it was used. I also agree with you tomalak the scenes between janeway and Neelix and Tuvok and wild man are powerful and emotional and it shows all 4 of them at there best.

Yus! A great Harry Kim epsiode. This epsiode is just fantastic, the sorry is brilliant matches what the characters would do. I loved the scene at the end it was building up to be really intense between the other ship, and chakotay. Then between harry and the doctor. This as far as I'm concerned is Garret Wang at his absolutely best.

Once Upon A Time was supposed to be about the crew keeping Naomi in the holodeck while Voyager fought a war. She was supposed to notice people in the corridors walking around with weapons and hear bits of conversations. Instead of just Neelix every one of the characters would go in and check in on her. It would have been a Naomi episode with each of the cast getting 'character moments'. I didn't mind the version we got, though, with Neelix having to deal with the loss of his family and trying to protect Naomi Someone could probably make a decent fanfiction with the original idea. I agree about Flotter. They originally hoped they could produce and sell the Flotter doll.

Timeless frustrates me. It is a great episode (and the writer's wanted to revisit the Harry we saw in The Killing Game) but after they saw what Harry could do, why didn't they do more with him? Oh well...it's still one of Voyager's best. Nice cameo from LeForge. :)

Once upon a time, Samantha Wildman used to be a child and showed a great interest in holodeck adventures:

Once upon a time, Samantha Wildman's daughter inherited her mother's adventurous nature and followed in her mother's footsteps:

Once upon a time, the mother ended up in great danger, which caused deep sorrow for her daughter:

Once upon a time, the daughter's sorrow also caused her mother a great deal of distress:

And once upon a time, even Captain Janeway's adventurous nature manifested itself in her early childhood:

Janeway, one of whose main aims in life is to avoid time travel, inadvertently finds herself in the middle of it more often than not. And even if it works out badly for her, she can count on her loyal First Officer - this time together with her favourite ensign - to set things right, no matter what the cost. Interestingly enough, our beloved Captain often gets critized for her actions in ENDGAME - which I can perfectly understand - whereas Chakotay and Harry are just as often praised for not giving a damn about the principles of time travel in TIMELESS - which I can understand a little less. Although I enjoy both episodes, I'd really like someone to make me understand the difference between HER actions and THEIR actions. Any volunteers?
There's a certain melancholy about this episode for me, which always puts me in a sad mood - that's why I thought that oil painting captured my feelings better than any other technique:

Infinite Regress

Seven displays Multiple Personality Disorder and we get a really cool mindmeld scene. It's probably not as cool as the MM scene in Random Thoughts (Man that was dark), but I really liked how they filmed that sequence. I think Livingston talked about it on the DVD special features. It was eerie and showed the chaos to the Borg order of things. Jeri Ryan gave a good performance in split personalities. I could have done without another alien of the week trying to get their hands on something though. Other than that, relatively decent episode.
