So basically, they're gonna do what Enterprise did? Tread around canon to make sure nothing is disturbed? That's insane.
And let's be honest, that footage looks cheaper than the CGI in a sharknado movie. No way it's anything more than a quick and dirty bit for the SDCC.Yeah, everything about this says it's a test render.
If we're honest, no matter what the budget CBS can't afford to have their new series criticized as cheap or cheesy looking as compared to the nuTrek movies.
An old ship in the future would make sense considering they're launching from inside an asteroid. Ships are built in the atmosphere or shipyards, an asteroid indicates they're on the run or hiding from something or someone.

So.. why show it then? That seems weird.According to IO9 Fuller was asked about Maquarrie and the design said he can't talk about either as legal is still working on it, so from the sounds of that we could have some pretty big changes yet depending on how the legal issues shake out.

I like this. I would love to see the Federation fall apart and rebuild itself. Societies diminish and rebound. Guinan put it best: "As long as there's a handful of you to keep the spirit alive, you will prevail." I know a lot of us want optimism, and I think that's plenty optimistic, even in the face of dystopia. As long as there's hope and teamwork and family, it'll stay true to the spirit of Star Trek. Just my two cents.I could see that happening. Post TNG era, the Federation is in ruins, this old ship was hidden in an asteroid in the past and forgotten about...someone found her or remembered her and she's pressed back into service to help rebuild what's left of the Federation.
IDK - I have never warmed to that "Star Trek Phase II" ship design from the abort TV series attempt that became "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (which IMO looks like what they're going with here.) I AM happy this season of the new series either is in, or is VERY near the TOS time period/era.
