Holy crap, this comes out next week already?? Where did the summer go? Have to double-check my local bookstores, see if they might have copies out early...

 

It was available at Shore Leave as far as I know, so I figured it was time for the review thread.

 

It was definitely on sale at Shore Leave. Dave and I signed many copies of Books 1 and 2.

 

Can't wait.

 

Mine arrived from B&N in today's UPS. Even though the other three items in the same order (a political book, a Charles Ives CD, and an Ellen Taaffe Zwillich CD) aren't expected until next week.

You seem surprised that things can be delivered at different times when ordered at the same time.

 

No, just surprised that something that (at least theoretically) hasn't been released yet would get here ahead of things that have been out for years.

 

I loved the first one in the trilogy. Pretty sure will like this one and book 3 too. I just have a small issue. I wish they would withhold the synopsis in trilogies like this until the release date. If you read the synopsis for book 3 ,it kinda spoils some of this book already. Just some nitpicking here. Lol

 

Hmm. Lots of Easter Eggs. Some of them a bit distracting. "Beggs Hansen"?!?

Kind of wondering how closely David Mack's Centaurus, is going to fit in with Brad Ferguson's Centaurus of 30 years ago. And how closely David Mack's Joanna McCoy is going to fit in with Brad Ferguson's Joanna McCoy.

 

I hope to get my copy of this book next week. I can't wait to read David's newest novel!

 

Not at all. The use of those elements is an homage, not a sequel.

As for that Easter egg being "distracting," how many people really know offhand the last name of the actor who played a bit part in two episodes nearly 50 years ago? I'm a Star Trek professional and I had to look it up. I think you're blowing that out of proportion.

 

The name of the actor who played Hansen in both "Court Martial" and "The Menagerie" (funny how both of his appearances were in episodes involving courts martial), Jim "Hagan" Beggs, is unusual enough that it kind of jumped out at me when I first saw it in a cast list (probably in the Ballantine edition of Bjo's Concordance, or maybe even in David Gerrold's The World of Star Trek), and it simply stuck in my mind ever since.

 

So far I'm not impressed by the cover Art. It's rather quiet for a Trek novel.

I just picked this up at Barnes and Noble today. They had one copy left. I just started it. I'm only a chapter in.

 

This is extraordinary: I cast the first vote.

It missed "Outsanding" simply by having too much of a good thing, too many times. Among other overloads, the beginning was an overload of Easter eggs, and the battle scene was an overload of tension.

Am I going to find that

the alternate universe is simply so alien, that those consigned to it end up with their minds "making up" what they're perceiving (like in visits to the "Qontinuum")?

Is there any reason that the audible narration was linked to the Kindle version for book 1 but doesn't seem to be for book 2?
