Spoilers Spoiler-ish Q&A - Star Trek Beyond

So, this picture of the TOS cast, from when was it taken, TV series era, or movie era?

Hey all. This is a quick one for you Andy if thats cool. Im ok for spoilers as I've been following the film for sometime but could you please tell me a bit more info on
the new "1701-A" at the end? Is it more inline with the refit Constitution from the original films? Does it have the big JJ Nacelles? Im a big ship geek and im dying to know.
Thanks again.

Why is that stupid? If it was
classical music
would it be less stupid? Or some magical technobabble solution? I don't know if this is true or not, but I don't think it's too out of line.
Eh, the fact that it has to be music at all sounds unnecessarily gimmicky to me - they can't generate noise that would be more effective? I'm all for fun in a film - love the G&S bit in Insurrection - but I tend to prefer climaxes that are taken a bit more seriously. I'll hold off on a definitive judgement until I actually see it, of course, but the description makes me think of the end of Godzilla vs Monster Zero, which isn't exactly something films should be striving for.

Three quick queries: Why is Spock in a Franklin-era uniform? I assume the escape pods contained the uniforms we see Kirk and Chekov in. In one teaser, it looked like Scotty may have escaped inside a torpedo, is that the case?

Or...

Mars Attacks!

IIRC, it was already said earlier in the thread that the Enterprise A is exactly identical to the Abrams Enterprise of the first two movies.

No, as-so-far as they're focused on the male Captain coming to rescue the crew.
Aww, too bad. Would have been nice if it did. From all that's known right now, it at least looks like they did without a forced romantic subplot for Jaylah. If that turns out to indeed be the case, I'll be happy.

Thanks for answering my question!

Does the Bechdel test pass the bullshit test?

No.
Thank you. The Bechdel test is a steaming pile of horseshit which proves nothing. A nearly completely female dominated film like Gravity actually fails the Bechdel test while a movie that's completely sexist garbage can pass the test by having a ten minute scene involving two female characters talking about shoes. Why anyone even takes the Bechdel test seriously is all the more confounding.

Personally, as I sit in the theater, angrily grinding my teeth about how there aren't enough naked women in front of my eyeballs, I quickly decide how racist the film is by using the MASH test.

What is the MASH test, you ask? Allow me to educate you, since you're obviously too busy colonizing this forum to know about this really legitimate scientific test I just made up.

In order to pass the MASH test, a movie must have at least one scene where 2 Koreans are in the scene alone and talk about something other than Korea. If a movie doesn't meet this arbitrary criteria I just pulled out of my ass, then it's been scientifically proven to be super racist, just like MASH and that bastard Alan Alda. If you enjoyed it, you have some sort of subconscious bias against Koreans.

I hope you are more woke now. Please sign my change.org petition to badger JJ Abrams about Koreans.

And those Koreans must be speaking pidgin English, of course (and they don't even have to be Korean, just Asian, because, well, you know -- ).
