Eh, I think it's pretty dumb. I would have a problem with
classical music too. Destroying a powerful fleet with some sick beats
sounds really awful. Maybe it will be ok in the context of the movie. Execution is everything.

I would bet though, that the inspiration for the swarm was
flocking birds, and this seems to be quite a creative way to disrupt the connection that the ships have, similar to how EM disruption screws with birds internal compasses.

I'd like it see it in the movie before I pass judgment.

Yes. The method is logical. The execution will be problematic, that is,
the choice of song and all,
but the Enterprise was destroyed by a low-tech method, and this method seems appropriate in that context, too.
There could probably be a more "scientific" way to do it unless such methods of achieving the same thing more conventionally wouldn't be available on a Starfleet ship because who would think to equip a starship with that ability because the technology isn't used any more by Starfleet. Hence, Kirk et all make do with what they have.

Besides, if a more practical way exists, this one sounds like it's more fun. Let's go for more fun.

    I was reading about
    Prince today. The author wrote,

Hundreds of years from now, people will talk about Prince in the same hushed and reverent tones we reserve for Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. (Newsweek Special Commemorative Edition, Prince 1958-2016, pg. 32)

It's possible that in the JJverse that Kirk's favorite band is spoken of in the same tone.

(On a tangent, I am skeptical about the author's opinion on Prince's music. I read a piece about a musician who described what it felt like to hear popular music made before his time. He described it as hearing a relic of a past time. Right now, Prince and Beastie Boys are popular because of their closeness to us. When those who heard the music for the first time have died and are nostalgic for it, I do not think that many will want to hear the music.
It will seem "old" to them.)

Thats how I look at it. If this was a TNG episode and Laforge was like "Well, we can disrupt their communications with a low frequency em pulse", or something like that, it'd be fine.

I just pictured some kind of beam coming out the E-D's deflector dish.

It could also be the tools and technology to do the job more "clinically" did exist on Kirk's Enterprise, but are not available on the Franklin. So, they "MacGyver" it.

I just wish it needed to be polka music. :D

Yes, it's part of a weapon Krall wishes to use.

Me too. Maybe in the next one.

Everyone, please be careful in commenting on a tagged spoiler. If your remarks provide hints as to the nature of the tagged content, you'd best put them in spoiler tags as well.

No, I think in context the current option is better than that.

Nice call-back to ST09. If this was the last Nu film, it would make an appropriate conclusion.

True! When does Shatner ever really act? He always seems to just play himself all the time.

This answer to all this is apparently at some point at the end of the movie...
...there is a photo of the original cast. How that fits into the story overall I don't know.

Could there have been a photo among Spock Prime's belongings of his old crew?

I would imagine it's something very close to that. Ask Andy. :)

Yeah, it ultimately helps Spock decide his future with Starfleet.
