Denial can be pure ignorance too, it's wrong to say it's only because of homophobia. Many gay people married and got a family because they simply weren't aware of themselves until too late.

Apocryphal, but I run in circles where I meet many guys like this, because I'm one of them. I've been to discussion groups with them and we share stories. If it ain't directly because of homophobia that they came out late, then it was indirectly because of homophobia that they were in ignorance.
