It's ridiculous to think that every person who has criticized the movie is sexist

Unfortunately, the group-think force behind the defense of this movie pushed that empty idea, as you see in this thread.

We've seen plenty of reboots of beloved franchises, but none of them have reached the toxic levels of hate this has

Are you kidding? When the J.J. Star Trek was announced, plot and casting revealed and eventually released, that film received widespread scrutiny and in many cases extremely harsh criticism. Three films in and its still being criticized. Were you around to recall the sweeping beating of Gus Van Sant's pointless remake of Psycho? He--and the cast--were ripped apart by critics and fans before and after its release.

That's just two examples, but I could list more all day to prove that the level of criticism toward Ghostbusters is not new or rare.

I do find it a little frustrating that Sony and the producers have chosen to give so much attention to the sexism against the movie, because all it has done is make it so that even people with legimate complaints are declared sexist and ignored.

That is the Social Justice Warrior tactic: to misrepresent criticism as some kind of social negative in the hope to smother individual taste and thought.

It comes to light that a movie that is going to be remade using a female cast.

The vast, vast reaction of society ranges from "that's cool" to "meh." That's it. Full stop.

The loudest ones are the minority - the angry, vitriolic guys that have this strange form misogynistic entitlement over something that has literally zero bearing on their actual lives.

Also: We all know @TREK_GOD_1 has a bit of a history of writing misogynistic or generally bigoted posts. In this case I find the shrill tone of his posts that are full of victim complex rhetoric quite irritating but I won't lose sleep over it. What I read in those posts is male anxiety in the face of losing a tiny bit of male privilege.
We just can't reach everybody but we can keep trying make progress on that front.
