Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

If its just a "fucking movie," then we would not have 123 pages of some beating their heads into walls attempting to defend a movie they have not watched and attacked others (like the liar above my post) for daring to have their own opinion on the production.

You really don't see the disconnect here, do you?

Apparently, you don't since you and a couple of members are waging a personal attack war all over "a fucking movie."

I'm criticizing your bigoted opinions. Calling those out isn't a personal attack. You've been on this site long enough to know that this is perfectly okay so try and tone down the victim complex apparent in your posts.

You still haven't explained how "treating people with respect" and supporting equality is "an agenda". And if it is, why would a decent human being not be on board?

You use terms like "Social Justice Warriors" for people who support the most basic concepts of human decency and equality. That says more about you than it says about them.

I'm not sure why you're so angry and why this whole thing causes such a visceral emotional reaction in you but you might want to take a step back and reconsider.

On a more general note: This is something that often annoys me about MRA people. The incredible anxiety they experience at the thought of losing some of their male privilege seems to create a very intense emotional reaction full of anger. Sadly it means it's almost impossible to talk to them.

Does anyone else think Feig reminds them of George Cukor? Both being known as comedy directors, doing their more notable work with women actors, but also tending to struggle when asked to direct action scenes. I question some of the cutaways and reactions shots that were chosen.

Also, I only managed to see just over half the movie before life made me have to leave early, but it was an okay film. Nothing I'd pay to see again, just an average summer flick with both good parts and bad. One of those 'turn your brain off' types of movies. And the one character was annoyingly shouty and loud. Hemsworth was funny. This is not a movie that should be evoking such strong emotion from either side, really.

There was an interesting news segment on one of the entertainment news shows tonight about this film. They determined that male critics are more likely to be critical of this film than female critics. I want to say it was ABC News Tonight or something like that.

I for one am looking forward to this. I have been waiting for a new Ghostbusters adventure for a long time and I think that this will be a good film. Besides, I have liked the other films that Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy have done together. I have no doubt I'd like this one as well.

Oh, no, you must be a Social Justice Warrior.

It's been my experience that the term "social justice warrior" is rarely applied to the agenda of equality, but more towards tipping the balance in the opposite direction, completely favouring the "other side" masked in the name of equality.

Does it apply to this movie? Maybe not. But going from the original cast of 3 white men and 1 black man in the early 80's to 3 white woman and a black woman in 2016 on the surface doesn't appear to playing a card looking for equality, but just the pendulum swinging to the oppsite (gender) side. And still very much lacking in racial equality.

With that said, there's no rules to casting any movie, and I adore Kristen Wiig, so, I'll certainly se the movie eventually. However lackluster every single trailer has been.

Equality doesn't mean a perfect 50:50 male:female ratio in every single movie. Traditionally movies with a majority-female cast were very rare (especially in scifi). Now they're slightly less rare which is a step in the right direction towards equality.
No feminist is asking for movies to ONLY EVER feature women. ;) Just more diversity and equality so that having movies dominated by men isn't the default norm anymore.

That doesn't mean we can't have movies with an all-male cast once in a while. Just give us some balance. ;) Judging from statistics on the representation of women and minorities in movies, white men are still by far dominating the business so I wouldn't feel too sorry for male whitey yet.

As long as we're nowhere near equality in that regard, it's a bit silly to complain about the pendulum swinging in the opposite direction. The pendulum hasn't even nearly reached half-way.

I'm criticizing your bigoted opinions.

Typical; seeking to silence any who do not fall in line to what is a hive mind desire, you misuse the word "bigot," yet offer not a single example of it. Where is your example of bigotry? You are resorting to the same tactic as those on the ideological Right who loosely toss around "race card" as a means of silencing a person, or situation they cannot control--usually a person exposing a truth they do not want exposed. Guess what? It does not work, especially when you cannot define this phantom bigotry in the same way the Right cannot offer a single, well-structured sentence describing how a "race card" is applied instead of the legitimate issues.

Not-so-strange bedfellows.

Nonsense.

Examples:

Yeah, that's just a reaction to the immature stupidity of your views and opinions

You're so far from being a man I don't even know where to begin.

By pretending personal attacks like that quoted above do not exist--not to mention your own lies in a previous post, you have rendered your statements as hollow--based on hate, not fact. You are making this too easy.

You still haven't explained how "treating people with respect" and supporting equality is "an agenda". And if it is, why would a decent human being not be on board?

Absurd--in the extreme. Several members in this thread are talking about fans and/or producers forcing a sociopolitical agenda into a film--and its abuse elsewhere. Funny how you say nothing about Feig's constant attacks on anyone criticizing the film--mislabeling them as "sexist" (and other vile statements), which is a textbook attempt to abuse, then control those with an individual view.

Could it be Fieg is untouchable because he's speaking for you? Or will you say you are unfamiliar with any of his attacks?

By the way, the discussion of this film has nothing to do with treating your fellow human with respect, nor is anyone arguing against that. Nice try at trying to conflate the reality with your fantasy.

For the record, please tell the world you believe there's not a hint of misandry practiced in entertainment. Let's see if you can embrace even a moment of honesty.

I'm not sure why you're so angry and why this whole thing causes such a visceral emotional reaction in you but you might want to take a step back and reconsider.

More lies. You (and the other guilty members) seem to be so invested in pushing this film, that you have allowed it to make you (among several things) post lies, and misinterpretation of people you do not know--all because you cannot accept the truth that yours is not the single belief of the world. That is a problem that requires attention.

Are you--and others--so insecure that you need absolute agreement (ending in praise) about this film?

This post is an excellent example of misogyny masking as a human rights argument. Just keep in mind that the humans who really need the rights aren't being defended here.

Yes, the agenda-driven of this society expose themselves, then complain when they are called out for their myopic viewpoints no rational mind would ever accept. Yes, you've successfully described yourself.
All you've done there is employ the Pee Wee Herman gambit. I know you are but what am I......I mean that's fine but I tend to put my best foot forward. That's just me tho.

Also as someone else has pointed out, giving everyone a fair shake is not an agenda thing. That should just be a default move. It's a bit strange to think otherwise, no?

And who's complaining? Not me.

Keeptelling yourself that in posts that are overflowing with hatred.
No really, that was just casual talk. I'm one of the more happy go lucky guys you'll ever meet. I don't wish you any ill will at all, but I do think you will help phase yourself out with your attitude. That's called personal responsibility - look it up.

More evidence of your hatred and immaturity.
Ok - all I did there was point out that you re-typed the same sentence in one post. You define this as hatred and immaturity.

C'mon man....

I mean that's just.......ridiculous.

That we can agree on--you are not enlightened, but like to pretend you are.
I don't think I'm enlightened at all, nor do I pretend to be. I just think I've got a good, mellow handle on life and recognize it for what it is. You're only as strong as the people around you.

If you were truly happy to be in the world, you would not drown in such hatred, post after post all over "a fucking movie." Clearly, you cannot stand individuality and freedom of belief. Horrible to live in that kind of shell.
I love individuality and freedom - it's what separates us from the animals. Listen, I realize that you - somewhat desperately - need to paint me as angry and devoid of finding happiness in life, I mean that just suits you and your narrative perfectly, but I'll stand by my statement that so many people live in such a great time and there are a ton of positives to rally around. Why you aren't doing that is beyond me, but it doesn't really matter one way or the other at the end of the day. You do you. Good luck with that.

No one has smothered your individual thought. We have only examined it and found it wanting.

If you consider your only contribution to this thread--personal attacks and lies--your "best foot forward," then you are not in a good position.

Movie casting is not about a "fair shake." It should be about the best performers capable of bringing characters to life.

Keep telling yourself that your hate-filled posts having nothing to do with the topic--in some bizarro sense--translate as you being "happy go lucky." No one else buys that.

You wasted seconds of your life to point that out, so it is clear you had a bug up your ass about that.

Mellow is not attacking strangers. Really, you need to stop trying to sell yourself as the polar opposite of your constantly presented self.

Said the person who really thinks his numerous posted attacks did not paint a very different picture. Do yourself a favor--just embrace your bitter nature--you do not love individuality, since you cannot accept mere differences of opinion.

No one has smothered your individual thought. We have only examined it and found it wanting.

You cannot smother my thoughts--I'm exposing your attempt to do so, as you are--frankly--a hypocrite in wanting the world to swallow your sociopolitical views, yet want cannot accept that others in this thread have legitimate reasons for embracing their own views.

No, I do not expect you to get it--but I do expect more lies and an inability to define (false) charges.

What does "yet want cannot accept that others" mean?

To me this makes it all worth it:

Look at the hero worship in those eyes. That little girl has been inspired, and her imagination has been set in motion.
