Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

If he forms Kobra, I hope when Barry calls for help, he'll yell "yo, Joe!"

To be fair,
DC's Kobra: Created in 1976

GI Joe's Cobra: Hard to get a specific date, but no earlier then the early 80s

They have similarities, both being evil organizations, but they're both fairly different. Kobra is a evil religious cult, which I'm pretty sure Cobra isn't.

But it WOULD be funny.. and the Flash is so fan-friendly, they might throw it in there, and those in the know will hav a good laugh and start a mini socialmedia trend

I know the color scheme comes from the comics, but I find it kind of hard to believe any of these characters would deliberately create a costume that seems so reminiscent of Thawne's...

I honestly don't think the costume design translates all that well to live action. I mean, it's very faithful and all, but seeing it in physical form like that just doesn't seem to work all that well. For that matter, I wouldn't say it was a great costume to begin with. In practical terms, if the in-show explanation for the suit is that it protects against the effects of high speed, what's the point of leaving the scalp uncovered?

I wonder, is this something that Wally will be wearing in the regular timeline, or only in the alternate "Flashpoint" universe (which I expect to be limited to the first couple of episodes or so)? Because I thought it was made pretty clear last season that Wally showed no signs of being affected by the dark-matter wave.

I think this confirms most suspicions that Flashpoint will be very short. I believe filming began last Tuesday or Wednesday. So that first episode is probably finishing up around now. My guess is Wally as Kid Flash is revealed when Barry returns. Either the end of episode 1 or the beginning of episode 2. Episode 2 probably has locations shooting of him in costume in the next few days, Which is why the released these now.

I doubt they would spend the money on a one time suit for an alternate timeline. Or release an image so early to gain publicity for something that will not be a constant presence in the series. I suspect that test results on Wally were simply wrong. It seemed odd at the time that they think detecting something so mysterious as Dark Matter is as easy as taking a person's body temperature.

We did see the spark of energy when he was unconscious, and I took that as an indication that something was happening to him.

I had the same thought. Other than that, I do like the costume a lot.

But it would make sense in story terms -- he wanted superspeed badly, so if he didn't get it after he thought he should, that frustration could drive stories. A story where a character just gets what he wants isn't as dramatic. And Jessie showed clearer signs than Wally did. It would've been interesting to see Jessie get superspeed while Wally had to contend with still being normal.

Theory: Wally might discover that residual tachyons in Thawne's old outfit "kickstart" his own powers, which is why he tested negative at first. Subsequently, he won't actually need to wear the Reverse Flash suit, but has Cisco retailor it.

you decided this after looking at one still image of the costume?

Well, two, actually. And it's not an immutable decision, just a first impression. I hope later impressions change my mind, but right now, my impression is that I'm not, err, impressed.

I've just never been a fan of that kind of cowl-with-no-top design that's oddly commonplace in comics, with characters like Kid Flash, Gambit, '90s Jean Grey, and the like. It's really pretty bizarre -- why would you want to protect the sides of your head but not the top? It's like a negative hat. And it's something I've virtually never seen in live action, except maybe in the really cheesy NightMan TV series in the late '90s. It looked pretty awful there.

There are two images.

The Kid Flash costume is the greatest superhero costume ever designed.

I'm more interested in how Jay and Hunter's hats stay on.

The idea the costumes are for protection is a recent development. In comics the Flash has an aura that protects him from any harmful effects

Which makes it even more arbitrary. Rephrase: Why would you want to cover the sides of your head and your neck, but not the top of your head? Artistically, I'd guess it was because comics artists got tired of drawing cowls and decided to mix it up by adding hair. But as something people would actually sew out of cloth and put around their heads, it's a pretty weird fashion concept, and as far as I know, it doesn't have much of a real-world precedent.
