Spoilers Spoiler-ish Q&A - Star Trek Beyond

Personally, I'm pro-spoilers
Yes, not everyone cares about movies being "spoiled", though the ones who do care are a lot louder in their preference.

That said, revealing details of the movie does seem to contradict the embargo. Problem is, this is online and therefore on the record. Getting the gossip over a pint would be safer and more fun. Anyway, the main thing is - lets keep it under our hats, okay? What happens in TrekBBS stays in TrekBBS. ;)

Maybe it's not a warp recalibration. The NX Enterprise was technically a prototype. Perhaps they found issues with the engines during its nine years out that caused Starfleet to decide that Warp 4 engines were more stable for mass production.
I think they have confused things by making the Franklin warp 4. Warp 6 might have been better.

Really not big deal about the Franklin and it's engine Warp Speed. after all We assume that the voyagers and the defiant came about at roughly the same time frame in the 24th century and head to the the galaxy class and all three a different speed engine. While it might just be decimal points on the warp sale used at that time, the difference between warp 9.8 is vast compared to warp 9.975, that a huge difference win speed.

And of course in real life with everything from boats, ships, motorcycles, trucks, cars, and various places we see various different engines that can all reach various different speeds. I don't think that anyone in that sort of field today expects each new engine design that is released has to be a faster engine model then an earlier one.

As for spoilers, lets face it, we are already being hit with spoilers, I like to call them teasers and trailers, and tv spots. And thanks to the global information highway, people like myself in the US can see trailers, and tv spots that were never cleared for US release.

Now I don't advocate someone releases a beat by beat breakdown of the film, or someone pulling a Wolverine back from 2009 and releasing on to the web the work print of the film, so far I see nothing that should really impact the viewing experience of those who mind getting spoilers.

All the contracts signed at the premiere as a condition of entry were collected. They explicitly stated reviews and revealing details about this film are expressly forbidden, and went on in great length about potential remedies for breaching said contract. Read the half page of legalese on the back of the invite if you don't believe me.

Even if you take the view Paramount won't sue a fan for breach of contract (very brave in light of recent events), you are violating the wishes of Paramount not to have details of their movie discussed online till the 21st. Put yourself in their shoes. What a display of gratitude it is when a company goes out of their way spending huge money to make fans feel like stars for a day, allowing red carpet access, food, drinks, celeb chats, and a free screening, and all they ask in return is attendees keep their mouth shut for two weeks. We can't even manage that.

I wonder if ignoring an embargo will make Paramount more likely to invite fans to something like this in the future? I thought Trek fans were supposed to put the needs of the many ahead of their own. Guess not.

I slept on returning to this thread. But none of these rationalizations about spoiler codes, promises about revealing only "minor" details (who's to say what "minor" is here anyway?), embargoes applying only to media companies, are factually or morally correct.

After the 21st, when the embargo ends, knock yourself out, ruin every minute of the film if that gives you gratification, but till then, this thread is just plain wrong.
I thought we already had a whole PM exchange where you raised your concerns and I took it to the other mods and admins in the BR and we all decided that the thread was acceptable and would remain open for now? Why are you bringing it up again in the thread?

I wanted to ask about Anton Yelchin 's character Chekov getting a good storyline with Kirk in this movie?

I'm so glad to Anton gets a good showing in this film. Thanks Andy Pandy for answering my question. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this movie in a few weeks.

Thanks Andy.
Does Spock get any decent scenes with Kirk in this one, or just McCoy? From the trailers it didn't look like much.

Yes, but I may not be the best judge - I fell asleep halfway through Episode 7.

LOL okay I will take it as promising, I have loved star wars for most of my life and got into trek later on, I even like the star wars prequels and was super hyped for episode 7 but I ended up just being very okay with it. it was not disappointing but neither was it great. it was just...... there.

star trek beyond gives me hope there is another space adventure that will wow me again.

Is the main bridge crew still human male dominated? Any sign of a Masters, Rand or Chapel? Or is Uhura the only Starfleet woman in the village?

If readers do not want to read about spoilers I suggest they avoid a thread that has has the word 'spoiler' in it. I am the type of person who reads the last chapter of a book and still enjoys reading the story. I like spoilers and it does not damage my fun!
+10000. People getting bent out of shape about spoilers (and who advise OTHERS to avoid them) is incredibly annoying to me. Let people make their own choices. If they don't want to be spoiled, they should 1) stay out of a thread with a title that says "spoilers" and 2) don't go on the internet searching for stuff, because you'll be spoiled. Don't think that's possible? It is, if you truly want a 100% unspoiled experience.

Let others have fun. We're all going to go see the movie anyway. So all the worries over spoliers (and Paramount's cute little "embargo") is pointless.
