BREAKING: Official Fan Film Guidelines Issued

We posted our Lanclos episode shortly after the guidelines came out. I know the Exec made every effort to insure it was well within the new rules. Some of the removed posts almost seemed to express a serious disappointment that C/P didn't come by and remove it right away. It makes me wonder how much of it is people reading into the guidelines stuff that just isn't there and how many people really wish for true fan films to simply go away.
<handing you a plate of Awesome Macaroni & Cheese comfort food and saying:>
I am so sorry to hear about the, was it Comments on your Lanclos YouTube?

And will casually remind you that this is the Internet which fosters and nurtures saying things that in person would be more controlled and measured. For example were I to take a dislike to, let's say, a TV show. Talking in person to the people who created said TV show I might really really strongly try to make my point that they did it wrong -or- disappointed me. But I might hesitate to call them fools or idiots who ruined it.

Then with my friends I would feel less restraint about calling the TV show creators the fools and idiots who ruined my show. Even throw in lots of expletives and rant rhapsodically on exactly what they did wrong in every single frame.

Now let's move to the Internet where I would be free to verbally assassinate the TV people to an audience of hundreds and thousands. Vitriolically destroy their skills & talent. Assign nefarious motivation & intentions to them as fact. (which of course I would really have no idea about) I can harangue them, vilify them, make awful memes about them, compare them to Hitler, verbally rip everything they say and do to bloody shreds... and encourage others to join in with me in doing the same. And all the while I can laugh at them in print while I mock them and any reactions they have to my vilification of them..... from my keyboard, in my room, apartment, house where I do not have to empathize with any pain or chagrin I am causing them. Or even recognize the actual depth of the pain I am causing them. ...........And where I can do all of this with relative impunity.

That can be an intoxicating and addicting freedom from social self restraint.... which releases biological chemicals that activate and reactivate the pleasure center in the brain. And if I get an audience who starts joining me in this...

Soooo, avoid reading them when possible, respond with dignity if you find you must address them. Resist succumbing to the natural human urge to beat them down-- right back. Often, except with the Borg, resistance is 'not' futile.

I was laughing out loud when I read one of the things Potemkin paraphrased in the Comment section: "The death of fan films has been greatly exaggerated."

I just have to find a way to use that!!!!

Whelp, I guess that voice acting career is sounding better and better, since fan films might be short lived...

I instantly have visions of my 54 year old baby brother and his computer in mom and dad's crawlspace under the house.

If I were going to push the envelope--whether moderately or otherwise--I wouldn't advertise it.

I guess that's possible. Only they would know.

It wouldn't surprise me if CBS had sent them a friendly, yet strongly-worded reminder of what legal powers they possess.

Or, the whole thing was an ill-advised publicity move to get attention to the project. In either case, they were extremely stupid.

Enter Cinema Sins and all the copycats.

Yep, you understand how the internet works. It fosters haterism. And that also means focusing more hate towards entities that probably deserved some in the first place (i.e. Axanar). It has a multiplier-effect.
