Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Aquaman could work really well, and Johns had a great take on him. He is a character torn between two worlds, the land and the sea, and as ruler of the sea world who also understands how human politics works wants the two peoples to live in peace. He wants to protect the sea from human exploitation but, unlike Sub-Mariner, doesn't want to wage war to do it. He also has to deal with all the politics of being the ruler of Atlantis.

There could be great parallels with modern politics as well as a solid environmentalism metaphor in his story.

But that's how Aquaman had been altered since the 1990s, from his one-handed, surface-dweller hating self, to his use in other media, such as Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League / Unlimited, and even the modern classic Justice League: The New Frontier has its version of Aquaman sharing hints of that personality. Of course, all of it was a rejection of his previously most exposed identity, which was the endlessly broadcast (1st run and syndicated) Super Friends cartoons, which smothered an often serious character, especially when one considers stories written during the late 60s run of his first series, and 70s Adventure Comics.run.

Today, the "angry," surface-hating Aquaman is unavoidable; writers cannot imagine dealing with the character in any other way, for fear that the spectre of grinning, whale-riding, invisible jet passenger Aquaman will return to make him a joke--irrelevant to tone of the new DC films.

He really wasn't surface hating, or particularly angry, in all of the Geoff Johns New 52 Aquaman run, and he wasn't in the recent Aquaman: Rebirth and Aquaman #1 issues either. He was a bit of an ass in Johns Justice League, but to be fair everyone was an ass for a long time in Justice League. I also dropped Aquaman soon after Johns left, and I couldn't stand Aquaman and the Others, so he might have been agry or surface hating in those, but overall being angry and surface hating isn't really Aquaman anymore, at least in general.

Yeah, it is a little weird to me that we don't have any of those characters in the DCEU League. When I think of Justice League teams, at least one of those characters is on it, if not all three.

What? Angry surface-hating sounds like Namor or maybe the DCAU Aquaman, maybe the Flashpoint one, but certainly not some default. The Young Justice Aquaman for example was an incredibly calm and compassionate leader - powerful and regal, but not surface-hating.

I'm not real familiar with the character yet, but I was under the impression that a big part of his story was that he was kind of torn between the surface and the sea, not that he hated one or the other. He was the King of Atlantis, but he was raised on the surface.

That's one drab looking Justice League.

Where'd all the colour go?

And it really can use a green character. Arrow, Lantern, Martian Manhunter... doesn't matter which.

I give you color! I give you GREEN!

Being realistic about it, what can Green Arrow really contribute to the JL that no-one else can do much better?

He has lots of money and gadgets and...oh, I see your point. ;)

But then, I've always found Batman's place on the team to be questionable too.
