Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Thor worked extremely well. I would be most interested in how they would incorporate "nonaquatic" humans with a superhero who is only useful as a superhero underwater.
Aquaman is a skilled warrior and immensely strong and powerful, even out of the water. He can do more than just talk to fishes.

I'd rather see Batgirl as a Supergirl spin-off.

Bad fit. TV Supergirl is giggly and light enough as it is (at least before the Cadmus plot takes center stage), and the way Berlanti and Company produce, a TV Batgirl would end up like the 1967-68 TV version. In other words, giggly and light.

I'd think it would be more on par with Arrow. And honestly, I've never seen Supergirl as giggly and light to begin with.

yeah but the talking to marine life and living underwater is his schtick

Only in Super Friends was it limited to that. As Skywalker said, Aquaman is also incredibly strong and durable -- you'd have to be in order to survive the crushing pressure, deadly cold, and fearsome predators of the ocean depths. Not to mention the superspeed needed to patrol the entire ocean -- which is a far vaster territory than Earth's land masses -- and the supersenses needed to function in the pitch blackness of the deep. Assuming his powers are only useful in the oceans is a profound failure of imagination.

Aquaman retains his powers out of water. The first issue of new 52 Aquaman has a great opening scene where he tosses a car.

Aquaman could work really well, and Johns had a great take on him. He is a character torn between two worlds, the land and the sea, and as ruler of the sea world who also understands how human politics works wants the two peoples to live in peace. He wants to protect the sea from human exploitation but, unlike Sub-Mariner, doesn't want to wage war to do it. He also has to deal with all the politics of being the ruler of Atlantis.

There could be great parallels with modern politics as well as a solid environmentalism metaphor in his story.

The only thing I can't see is how to make the Atlanteans talk realistically under water, unless Atlantis is set up like the underwater cities on Naboo.

Actually, the first three arcs of Johns new 52 Aquaman could work really well as movies with the third movie being a Justice League movie (although it has already been done in animation) and the second movie setting up The Others.

Have them communicate through telepathy/voiceovers. Or invent some kind of dolphinlike language and use subtitles.

I'm not saying his powers are limited to being in the water but that the water is his thing. Its what makes him different from the other superheros. An Aquaman not swimming around and talking to fish and not ruling underwater kingdoms is just some dude with superstrength. Now I want to read the new 52 Aquaman,

Yeah, and climbing walls is what makes Spider-Man different, but he can still hold his own just fine at street level. Just because you have a distinctive skill, that doesn't mean it has to be your only play.

No, but the climbing walls and web slinging and swinging are his "thing". Its why the chicks dig him.

Does anyone know if Aquaman will have both hands?

Also, is there going to be a Hawkman/Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman character?

The first arc is a pretty simple story, but it deals with the idea that Aquaman is a "joke". It is a little meta, but done well and establishes the character. The rest of Johns arc is filled with amazing stories that really show why Aquaman is a tier one hero.

Cyborg looks kind of lame, and Flash is a bit generic. Nothing awful, but nothing very good either. Going for black instead of silver/chrome for Cyborg really doesn't work well, at least in my opinion.
