Not sure if Disney has seen this http://www.pinkfive.com/ but this started as a fan film in the contest now you have to rent the fucking fan film!!!! That's just offensive and ridiculous 5 bucks to rent it and 50$ for a DVD I can buy a blu ray of a movie for 5 bucks and I can get all of TOS for $50 or close to it this is fucking ridiculous!!!!!
I'll also toss Anne Rice into that mix. There's not a lot of info, but, from what I understand, she shuts down fanfic of her work.
Oooh, that is a good idea. To get you started, here's what GRRM has to say about fan fiction. (If he ever hears about Axanar, that will probably cement his fears.) Anne McCaffrey originally didn't allow any fan fiction, but later apparently released some guidelines of her own. (No idea if they still hold now that her estate controls her works.)
You could also look at the time a Star Wars fan ficcer went rogue. That's an interesting story, particularly the fan community revolt that followed it. (A nice template for how fan works communities should respond when someone crosses a line.)

What has bothered me about the Axanar debacle, is that fans continued to heap cash and adulation on Peters even after it was clear it was a scam. It was more about sending an "FU" to CBS/Paramount than anything else.
Funny thing is, FU's have a way of coming back to bite you in the rear. As we are learning now.
And CBS/P could send that FU right back by cancelling any future Trek.
(Not that they'd ever do it, because that would be kinda stupid.)
There was a "rumor" that there was an offer on the table to purchase the Star Trek Franchise by an unknown bidder. Also Alibaba studios financed in part Star Trek Beyond for distribution rights in China.
If Star Trek is for sale, it might put a lot of pressure on C/P to clean out upstarts like Axanar and every other fan studio that does quality work.
They absolutely could. I'm someone with a mean streak, so it's a good thing I'm not in a position of power at CBS. Because I'd have pulled the plug on all of it. Too much of a hassle for no reward.

I've been saying they should make him play a Morn character, only with no backstory or interactions ever. But as he is so attached to his green screen, it gives me an idea: film all his shots there. That way he has to imagine his scenes, not just watch it all happen without giving any input.
But I suppose this would be cruel and unusual punishment for a superfan. So onward, discovery. Let's see if he held donor money in good trust.
I would be shocked SHOCKED if Paramount sold Star Trek. It would have to be MEGA bucks. What other franchise do they have that's all theirs?
Just keeping my ears open, there has been a bit of turmoil in Viacom and CBS this year, Viacom for profit drops (34% yoy, and CBS for control over the bod) A lot of offers get tossed around these days, I just never heard it was flat out rejected yet.
