Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

Jon is just an idiot as a commander. His army though smaller in size had a forest behind them. This would have negated all of Ramseys cavalry and pikemen and made the archers less effective. He did have the low ground which is always a bad thing but he also should have been aware of the grounds around the castle since its where he grew up! A poor commander indeed.
A completely clueless fool, in fact. As I wrote a while back, the episode was characterised by the Idiot Plot and Women are Wiser tropes. Daenerys doesn't escape criticism because she stopped to have a long chat with the masters while Meereen continued to be pounded into rubble. The Seven know how many civilians died.

The whole point was that Jon ignored Sansa's warnings about Ramsay's ability to manipulate people and turn their weaknesses against them. It doesn't mean Jon is a poor battle commander, just that he hasn't learned yet to keep his emotions in check. Perhaps he's learned that lesson now, after this.

He's actually a very competent leader, Ramsey got him emotionally. Killing his brother right infront of him. So I think anyone especially Jon would throw logic out when that happen. Davos saw all this coming, yet he knew he had to back Jon. That's why he ordered everyone to attack.

Game of Thrones will likely be done filming by the time Great Britain has actually left the EU. That whole process will take a few years won't it?

No one really knows for certain because there aren't rules or structure for this kind of event, but potentially, it could take a couple of years. But that funding might be effected sooner as described in the article.

If the GB pound continues to tank against the US dollar, I would have thought production costs would be effectively cheaper.

Thereby proving him to to be incompetent. At least, shout at your idiot "half-brother" to zigzag.

Even if he zigzagged, he'd still be dead. In fact if he zigzagged Ramsey would have had more opportunities to shoot at him. This isn't Prometheus, he was trying to reach the other side, to reach Jon. So a direct route is the fastest, he was hoping to reach Jon and outrun Ramsey.

Well, no matter what happened, he'd still be dead, because that's what the writers decided. But zigzagging would most certainly have increased his chances. We're not talking about a guy with a machine gun, here. Ramsey was shooting one arrow at a time, and arrows, unlike bullets, actually take a few seconds to get where they're going, so changing direction unpredictably after its loosed absolutely can save you.

He was shooting one arrow at a time because he was toying with him. Archers routinely hit moving targets at distance. Zigzagging probably wouldn't change the odds of his survival, even outside of plot convenience. Ramsey seamed a highly competent archer. There is this thing called anticipation, Quaterbacks use it all the time to deliver footballs through the air and hit a moving target that is usually zigzagging around the field.

Everyone knows anticipation exists, just like everyone knows anticipation is not perfect. Which is exactly what zig zagging is for. If you zag when they anticipate that you'll zig, then they miss. Just because something doesn't give you fantastic odds, doesn't mean that it doesn't improve your odds at all.

Just like Jon was protected during the battle by plot armour, Rickon was doomed by plot weaponry.

Can't help but wonder why nobody asked Melisandre to revive him but I suppose that plot device can't be used for every single Stark or semi-Stark who bites the dust.

Your also forgetting about Ramsey's gambit here. The reason he was shooting slowly and deliberately missing is that he wanted Rickon to run straight at Jon, to draw Jon into his archers range. Because of Ramsey's actions, Rickons reasoned that his best chance was running straight towards Jon. Also you're forgetting about a young boy, who's terrified in this situation. It's easy to say zigzag sitting on your couch.

It's absolutely understandable that Rickon wouldn't think to do it. That just doesn't change the fact that it theoretically could've helped.
