New Fuller Interview; Season 1 = 13 (Serialized) Episodes

Opinions like your's are what let me doubt there's anything more sophisiticated, intelligent, progressive and forward-thinking about Star Trek fans. Many of them are just your plain old jerks, really.

At the same time, the level of militancy on display over this topic really doesn't build any bridges either. I mean, does this have to be such a third-rail issue?

Did you miss the big shooting about a week and a half ago, on top of a host of other anti-LGBT bigotry and ridiculous laws in the face of rapidly changing opinions and demographics in this country? Have you missed how far there still is to go around the world? Yes, the "militant" (which is not militant at all) calls for diversity are absolutely necessary to set an example, because the bridge has already been built and there are just some stubborn people who refuse to cross it and instead insist on trying to tear it back down again.

They are still planning to sell to other markets, right? So how does streaming free them from concern over run-time? Will the rest of us get truncated episodes and stare at All-Access subscribers in confusion when they describe certain scenes and lines?

It's quite possible they will offer the series to other streaming services outside the US. Netflix Canada has a number of TV series (not Netflix produced) that stream but are not available on Netflix in the US. Canada has a number of other streaming services (Shomi, Crave, Crackle...), some of which are exclusive to Canada. I'm sure the same applies to other countries. Selling to other markets does not necessarily mean it won't be to streaming companies. Also, IIRC from my travels, European TV programmes do not have strict 30/60 min. run times with commercials scattered throughout. Beyond North America, the systems seem more flexible and able to adjust to variable run time parameters.

Also, there will presumably be a syndication cut made that makes sense. So that version can air in other countries. At one point SyFy was cutting Doctor Who to fit into a US time slot with the commercial length they wanted. It was annoying missing a bit, but if you didn't know they were missing you would never know.

After reading Facebook's reaction to these announcements, I no longer think this forum is negative toward Trek.

Holy CRAP those guys are being dicks about every single detail.
Surprisingly, most of the reaction I've seen is positive..but I also saw a 150 post convo about how homosexuals are not natural and that there would be a cure for them by the 24th century.

RAMA

You should never, ever read user responses at Facebook or other news sites. It will just depress you as to how many stupid, uneducated people there are in the world, and that they all have internet access.

Really happy with all of what Fuller said. I'm not at all surprised it will be single season long arc with 13 episodes, that's pretty standard for these kinds of shows these days.
I'm glad the show won't be set between The Undiscovered Country and TNG.
I'm not to surprised it's not an anthology, that always seemed unlikely to me.

It mostly sounds great. I'm surprised it appears to be set only on a starship. I was expecting a sweeping space epic set in multiple locations but I'm fine with a starship.

the 13 episodes/one story comment. I really, really, REALLY hope that's more an "arc", and not a singular story. Reminds me of when they tried that with Stargate, and the result was Stargate Universe -shudder

Stargate Universe also popped into my head. I hope it's just a loose arc running throughout the season and every episode won't be about the same story.

Race car spaceships? Really? :brickwall:

I'm trying really hard to be open to this new series. But I'm seeing some red flags.

He didn't say that they were literally going to look like race cars, just that they seeking inspiration from those kind of lines. For all we know they're looking at high-tech vacuum cleaners, dolphins, Egyptian chariots, manhole covers, and Frisbees as well. :)

I'll be curious to see what they come up with.

Thankfully it's not post-STVI

Maybe it's post STV, pre-STVI. It's a 13 episode series that follows our beloved, aged crew as they settle into retirement.

Episodes include:

"Uhura Chairs a Seminar"
"To Boat or Not: Scotty's Dilemma"

These write themselves.
