Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

I expected that to be used somewhere during this story, but I was expecting them to save it for the last episode.

But the word "flashpoint" means the critical point at which a conflagration or upheaval begins, like a point of ignition. And in the story, the meaning of the title was that Barry's prevention of his mother's death was the event that caused the entire subsequent history of the DC Universe to change, the flashpoint for the resulting chaos. So naturally it would be used for the beginning of the arc, not the end.

Good point.

Question: Any hints on The Flash‘s Season 3 Big Bad? I’m hoping Mirror Master is introduced! —Mike
Ausiello:
I’m seeing nothing firm (yet) on Mirror Master being introduced, but here’s a curious new breakdown to wrap your noodle around: For Season 3, the CW hit is casting the major recurring character of Barry’s slightly older, slightly geekier contemporary, a guy who is as smart as he is intuitive. As such, this newcomer doesn’t buy Barry’s nice guy routine and sets out to learn what he’s hiding — all while concealing some secrets of his own….

Ask Ausiello
Ted Kord!!!!!

I see the Flashpoint arc lasting at most four episodes. I think they will want it sewed up before the mega crossover.

The season long big bad may be someone who slips through the cracks from that alternate timeline to the main one. Just so the Flashpoint arc has relevance.

The new 52!

Seriously though, I agree that Flashpoint can't last too long because it would affect the other shows. Arrow is not going to spend a season in the Flashpoint universe for example.

It's not even going to spend one second in the Flashpoint universe. For all that these shows like to cross over and nod at each other from time to time, they're still separate shows with their own separate writing staffs, audiences, and story arcs -- and they're going to be released separately on home video. So none of these shows is going to put its own storylines on hold to replace them with an alternate universe that's part of the storyline of a different show.

Which is why I doubt the "Flashpoint" timeline will last longer than the opening 2-parter. As I've said, this is a pretty stock time-travel story that's usually quite simple: Hero changes the past, hero finds the present sucks, hero decides to go back and undo the change. Most shows that tell that story get it done in an hour or two, and really, that's about all it deserves. The only reason Flashpoint lasted longer is because it explored the changes to the DCU in detail and spread out over a bunch of different comics; but the Arrowverse doesn't have that many other characters whose alternate selves could be explored. And even the Flashpoint Paradox movie managed to get through the whole thing in 70-odd minutes. So I don't see there being any reason to drag out the story just because the comics did so. Comics are a different medium with their own priorities, such as being enslaved to the big-event model that demands concocting big, sprawling stories that are much longer than they need to be.

52 new shows based on DC comics? I'm sold!

That Flash costume isn't perfect but I like it a little better, especially the texture.

Yeah, that Flash costume is pretty nice, with a little work it would be a nice upgrade from the current show's costume/

I just stumbled across the first The Flash tie-in novel on Amazon.
The Haunting of Barry Allen by Clay Griffith and Susan Griffith. It says it'll crossover with a new Arrow novel. The only one I can find is Vengeance, which was released back in Feburary, so I'm not sure if it's that one or another one coming out later.
EDIT: I though the description was just for the series, but there is a tiny bit at the end about the book.
But when The Flash's own abilities begin to fail him, he must seek help from his closest ally - The Arrow. This two part adventure will cross directly into the next Arrow novel.
So it sounds like this will be crossing over with another Arrow novel, not Vengeance.
