UEFA Euro 2016 + Qualifiers

The news is full of Olympic Marseille Ultras attacking England fans, Russians in black outfits 'hunting' English supporters and charging them in the stadium, and drunken England fans hurling bottles at the police.

No-one is exactly covering themselves with glory. I can see sanctions from future competitions...

It was stupid to host England vs. Russia in Marseille full stop. English fans are not angels but these stupid ultra's and lets face it Russia has a massive problem with hooliganism like England had in the 80's & 90's and they are the main core of the problem. The problem with English fans is when feel threatened we don't back off and let the police deal with it our fans just see red and retaliate.

As for the game itself, ENG were outstanding from 1st to 91st minute, sadly we loss out heads in the 92nd and paid the price but based off that we will see off the Welsh with ease.

It looks like you're right. There's been Ultra attacks elsewhere on Northern Irish and Polish fans who were drinking together...

In England there's some criticism for Milner today. I think some of that should be criticism of the manager for putting him on. We could do everything but score, but did he put Vardy on ? A one or two goal cushion would have avoided that result.

The T.V. sanitisation of the trouble in the ground is worrying - you saw nothing in the coverage, but apparently throughout the game the radio comentary was saying that something needed to be done, the England supporters were being beaten. Nothing was done...

Meanwhile some supporters are behaving the way they should :adore:

That's good to see.

There were a lot of England fans bouncing up and down singing in the last day or two. They're often percieved as agressive.

I always think it's kind of some of them to throw bottles so you can tell whether they're agressive or not. It helps...

Today nearly all the teams with huge supporter bases here in Germany have games - Germany, Poland and currently, Turkey and Croatia. Hopefully, it'll stay peaceful. The game is a bit boring so far.

Things in France seem to be calm today. Let's see how the situation around the other games in Marseille and of Russia and England will play out. Maybe it was just a one-off.

EUFA, following the violence in the stadium, are being as evenhanded as ever and are threatening to ban England too.

Well, it seems fair - all that trouble in the stadium couldn't have happened without someone for the Russians to fire flares at and attack. We can't say we weren't involved...

It's probably more because of the behaviour of England supporters on Thursday and Friday in Marseille. Also, Russia is in bigger trouble, I think. Rushing other fans in the stands is what led to the Heysel Stadium disaster and can't be tolerated at all.

There are definetely German hooligans (of the right-wing extremist persuasion) in Lille. Some were stopped at the border but it looks like it was easier to get to this tournament than to previous ones. Very worrying. It must suck for the people living there. Maybe drastic measures really are what's required, like suspending teams with a problematic supporter base from the next EURO, no matter who it is.

In the match Croatia vs. Turkey fans were able to smuggle firecrackers into the stadium, last night it was pyrotechnics. So I wonder how tight the security really is.

Meh, I wish we could just enjoy the football.

To lighten things up, here's a video which explains the difference between football from Northern Ireland and Ireland. Northern Ireland's first match at a EURO ever is about to start.

UEFA are total pussies, Russia are the ones who should be expelled, there fans cause the majority of the violence and they will kill people during a Euro or World Cup if something isn't done. The Russian Sport minister said at first the reports were exaggerated before changing his tune and not a surprise from a country where its corrupt government supports doping and would think the Russian fans driving a tank through downtown Paris would be nothing bad.

The problem is Russia and I bet you they do the same with Welsh fans.

I love the public inside the stadiums. It's very different from the boring Ligue 1.

For the sake of my daily bet, Germany needs to win !

Well, seeing as how Leicester City won the Premier League. My bet for the Euros is someone like Iceland to win it

You've played well, had most of the possession and despite making chances, only managed to score one goal. In the 93rd minute, the last minute of extra time:

You concede the equaliser if you're England.

You score a second, if you're Germany...

I was worried because Schweinsteiger is far from ready to go full-time.

Turns out we only need him for 5 minutes.

Also, major props to Boateng. Saving your own own goal....not many people can do that.

Basically. That's England for you though

I totally missed it while watching the game but now I'll be forever traumatised by Löw's antics at the sideline. As if picking one's nose and inspecting one's chewing gum very intensely wasn't bad enough. :ack:

The game was a bit boring in stretches but the two goals were great. There's a lot of room for improvement in all parts of the team, though. I read a tweet this afternoon mocking a well-known Salafi preacher who asked his followers to pray for the Muslim players on the team next to a pic of Mustafi. And then, Mustafi actually scored. Kind of funny.

As for England, at some point during the game I wondered why in the hell I once let myself be dragged into supporting them. They've had promising teams in the past but they always end up performing in an unsatisfying way. I guess, at least this allows you to bond with all the other unfortunate souls who fell into the same trap.

Problem with England is at the start of every tournament it seems we always get all the hype about how great England is and then when we get knocked out it's like ''Oh well we're crap anyway'' LOL.

So I've given up on caring about how England do in these tournaments to be honest, I just watch it while I wait for the proper football (i.e club football LOL) to come back.

A Russian MP and executive member of the country's football union has praised Russian hooligans at the European Championships, saying they should "keep it up".
