Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Another tweet from the Flash director.

I don't know how much the studio has to say about his Twitter--but it certainly seems like somebody is trying to show that he's doing his homework and learning substantially about the source material. An effort to calm fans or just build publicity?

Well if you were doing a film about a character that you probably aren't familiar with, and want to do something unique and different from a popular TV show, wouldn't reading various Flash material on Barry and Wally make sense? He's likely just very enthusiastic about the project. The Flash movie doesn't come out until 2018, so building publicity at this point would be premature.

Certainly possible. I have no idea if he's a twitter regular. But anyway, getting this opportunity is something for him to celebrate, and I appreciate getting this glimpse of what he's experiencing.

Certainly. I always find it ridiculous when people on the Internet say "Such-and-such director isn't a fan of my beloved franchise, so they can't possibly understand it or get it right!" It's like those people have never heard of research. When you get a job that requires knowledge of a given subject, then you study that subject so you can do the job. That's basic to just about any job. Heck, even if you are a fan, you still have to delve more deeply into the subject in order to do it on a professional level. I've had to do a lot more work studying Star Trek as a Trek novelist than I ever did as a fan, and I've been a Trek fan since I was five.

I just noticed, they gave him "The Flash by Geoff Johns" omnibusses and softcovers?! What, did he ask Johns for recommendations, and he said: "Most importantly, you gotta read my stuff. Twice."
Hahaha I just noticed that myself. Well, I know that the 3rd omnibus of Johns' Flash did have a misprint for several issues. They put the conclusion to the Wally vs Zoom and Linda's fate before the introduction of the arc.

It's too bad Snyder couldn't have done that research thing you are talking about.
Or maybe he did just to make his contrarian take as contrary as possible.

Research is not proof against bias. Snyder did draw on the comics, he just drew primarily on very specific ones -- Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns, mainly. His view of DC is filtered through that perspective, that every DC movie needs to be done like Watchmen.

That's true, Christopher, I should have worded my post better. Perhaps I could say, research by different individuals can be interpreted differently and one person reading a resource can get something different out of it than another. It's Snyder's results I don't care for, perhaps he was diligent in researching, but I don't like his results.

I'm just glad he seems to be honestly excited about the character, and working on the movie.

It happens. Hell, George Lucas created the Star Wars universe, yet where the prequels were concerned--films he wrote and directed--he still screwed it up. If the creator can botch a film, certainly a hired hand can, no matter the research.

Ok, so he is going to do his research. But obviously a newb since nothing has been read yet. Does he have time to direct the movie and make sense of all this?
I'm sure he could polish all that stuff off in a month.

I think that's the big question now - is Johns going to have a hand in writing the script?

Most likely the script will be based on something Johns has done with the Flash. Hopefully it won't be something that has already been done on television.
