CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I can't help but think that IF I knew I was going to raise $1.3 million dollars and my goal was to use C/P's I.P. to build a for profit studio, I would have gone about it quite differently.
It's been nearly 2 years since the basic, green screened Prelude has been released followed by 2 years of public relations and still they raised another $1.2 million after just that one 20 minute thing. Give credit where credit is due, Alec knows how to shake down people for money while casting a spell over them to think they are getting a top notch product.
I'd be talking about releasing episode 5 by now and if people were filling up the crowd funding offers left and right, I'd be giving them a steady stream of epic video game battles and close up shots of the Captain screaming to raise shields & fire phases.
Alec would never had to release a financial statement to appease the donors after 2 years, I wonder who or how many people begin asking if they wasted their donation or bringing it to C/P's attention.
I saw the statement and my 1st thought was, "Wait a minute, Axanar is paying people to create C/P's IP?" On it's own level I feel that violates fair use, I was surprised that wasn't the centerpiece of the lawsuit. If my understanding is correct, you can recreate a Vulcan, Klingon, Star Ship or setting but you can't charge a fee for doing so.
Money is a funny thing, there are talented people that will do things for part ownership down the road over making a quick buck today. Maybe we give Alec to much credit for his diabolical plot to own the galaxy.

I have been saying it for quite some time -- Alec has given his hungry, JJ-loathing acolytes their bread and circuses from the beginning. That this farce continues today, six months after the rightful owners of the property have said "knock it off, LOL" as painfully obviously as possible is an embarrassment, motivated solely by Peters greed, hubris, and ineptitude and Burnett's unhinged and pathological insistence that he should somehow be awarded the right to make a Star Trek film despite being an otherwise mediocre director.

We work our butts off creating Star Trek and if we get a million views, it's time to party for a week. Somebody films a dog rolling down the hill 3 times and has 4.2 million views (up 800,000 in 18 hours)
Maybe it is time to rethink all of this.

I still love Free Enterprise. But that was a long time ago, and so was the last time I heard anything about a sequel, which would have been a better use of RMB's time.

Has anyone an idea, how many of the "over 10.000" dear donors are still on board?

Besides the 5-10 Axa-Marines/-Nerds/-Turds whose uncanny voices still can be heard? Are there more than those 5-10 people over at the closed Axanar FB group who actively participate in a discussion?

It feels like 99,9% either have left the building or got 86'd. Even axanarproductions.com has just the casual commenting going on, no matter what blog has been published...

Sometimes it feels like a few them escaped in order to badmouth the other productions, I guess you have to expect that but this battle Alec has with his ego is his undoing.

On a tangent, after seeing STC's latest episode I went back and watched bits and pieces of the previous offerings. Story and acting problems aside (and there are relatively few), it looks like everyone involved is having a blast.

That's what making a fan film is all about. Friends getting together and doing something they truly enjoy. Having fun, sharing a hobby.

Axanar is the opposite of that--making money, milking the fans, building a business.

But... Dmac... it's a dog rolling down a hill! How do you expect to compete with that?!

Also, do you have a link? :)

(Woo! 984th page! I'm helping!)

Exactly, Just because I've enjoyed working with one studio doesn't mean I can't enjoy work from another. I also run a couple of fan pages where every ones work gets posted (as long as I am made aware it's been released)
@Vance
Dog rolling down a hill

And the link has no dog.. alas.

But you hit the nail on the head there. No matter how any of this turns out, Alec and Axanar has successfully destroyed the FUN out of making these productions, at least for a long while. And, really, there's just no forgiving of that.

I don't think Terry would be able to say more than, "I saw transactions happening." My sources tell me that Alec is the sole person with complete control over Axanar's money.
Main reason I mentioned him was in case he was doing any data reporting and analysis.

PS It's a bulldog. They're kind of the Chris Farleys of the dog world.

Can't argue with a happy dog! And, besides, haven't we all enjoyed rolling down a grassy hill before? It's a relatable video! Cast that dog in a Fan Film!

Captain Garth Farley .... I can it see now!

Woof woof.

SO:
What is it Captain?

Woof woof

SO:
Ensign Timmy fell down a wormhole

Obvious dirty joke will be left to someone else...

Thought it does remind me of my own little spat (to use the term very loosely) with Axanar... but this isn't the best place for it. Suffice to say, I honestly don't think they have any clue what copyright and trademark actually ARE.

My biggest fault is that I don't look for negatives in people but I take it as a kindness when they're willing to display them right up front.
