I don't care what universe it's set, but it would be cool to have a link confirming what it will be doing specifically.
So, thread starter, perhaps you'd like to share with all us idiots a link to the information that proves you're correct (and I don't mean a link to Devin Faraci's nonsense.) Because so far to my knowledge, there has been no official word as to where and when the new show will be set. So please, enlighten us.
It's going to be set in the Star Trek universe.
I'm sure they will announce if/when they're ready. Or they won't announce at all if it won't matter. The only people that care are the few hard core fans posting on internet message boards. Making that kind of announcement will only confuse regular fans or give fans a reason to complain. So why should they announce a universe now? It will become apparent once there is marketing material ready to go out.

We know nothing about this show other than it's going to be on CBS All Access and airs in 2017, no universe, cast, ship, storyline or basic premise has been shared yet.
Since they haven't even started filming and the January 2017 date is just a target (until we get a better idea of the airdate anyway) we're the better part of a year away from it coming out.
All they have to tell us right now is that the series exists and they're working on it.

And, no, "rumors" and "reliable sources" and wishful thinking based on a fifteen-second teaser don't count. I've already seen people cite the same teaser as "proof" that the new show does take place in the new movie universe.
It has been reported the series is not tied to the current films and that the first season is set in the period between TUC and TNG. The show will also be an anthology.

I would enjoy seeing your proposed prime universe mea culpa post on the chance that you will have been 100% wrong, because I'm thinking you won't post it when the time comes.
No, rumors to that effect have been parroted all over the place, all based on a single fan blog, but they're still just rumors no matter how many times they're "reported" on-line.
I just went over to Trek Core and they don't have any news from official sources confirming any of these rumours. They have been very good about staying on top of news and only using reliable sources, so until they report it, I will remain skeptical.

Mind you, I'm not saying it won't be set in the old timeline; that's certainly a possibility. The point is that rumors are still only rumors and should be treated as such. Nothing has been confirmed.
Whatever universe this is show is set in, I wouldn't be surprised if set design, ship design, special effects, etc. were influenced by the JJ movies. Some kind of brand consistency would just make sense from a marketing standpoint, as the movies are currently most in the public consciousness.
