The 37's

Archimago

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hello, everyone, I've contributed to a few posts on this forum and read some very interesting posts, but this is the first one I've created so don't bite please! :P

I just watched the 37's again today the first episode of season 2, and had an interesting thought about what might've of happened if Amelia Earheart had stayed. Do you think this could've been viable? What sort of story would she have had? Who would she have developed relationships with?

Also if anyone knows any Fanfics already written on this I would be interested to read them.

P.S. I'm sorry if this thread has happened before I haven't been around all that long! :)

People staying or leaving has been discussed many times.

Personally, I find the idea of a woman who has spent her whole life looking for adventure, exploration and excitement, deciding to... stay and make babies utterly unconvincing.

If she'd been on the planet for a few years (even months) then maybe but she's literally gone from flying over the Pacific to waking up and meeting Janeway. Her sudden desire to help a bunch of randoms farm chickens did not add up.

"The opportunity to explore space, the future, aliens? No thanks, I'm staying here. That's my personality type, after all."

That being said, I don't think her presence on Voyager would have added much. The fish out of water thing would wear thin. Maybe she could have moved on at some point though.

If Amelia Earheart had stayed, I don't think she would have fitted in with the rest of the crew.
Going by the little we saw on THE 37'S, I had the impression that she was stand-offish and would have stuck out like a sore thumb among the crew of Voyager, who always had this sense of family around them.
Of course, that's just an impression but she definitely felt cold to me. If she had satyed, the producers might have changed her character later, though. Then she would have been OK.
Perhaps she would have taken flying lessons from Tom and she would have fallen in love with him. Who knows? It's difficult for me to imagine that relationship - but mind you, seeing all the (heterosexual) people around me, their real-life realtionships also often seem quite unrealistic to me ... :brickwall:
We know that Janeway was hoping to get to know her better, so an interesting friendship might have evolved between those two.
Personally, I would have appreciated much more if Rain Robinson from FUTURE'S END had stayed. Now that would have added a lot of humour to the show and an interesting dynamic with practically everyone among the main characters. Just look at her interactions with Agent Freakosaurus Tuvok, Mister Leisure Suit and Howdy Doody Tom Paris. I think she'd have been a great addition. I can only imagine her sarcastic remarks made about Seven of Nine's comments - that would have been hilarious, :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:!

Interesting :p I think she would've bonded well with Janeway and Tom but might have struggled to fit in with the rest of the crew. I also think she could've blocked Tom and B'elanna relationship which would've been a disaster. I quite liked her chracter personally she saw sense in a mad situation and I admire her for that.

Also give me a memory kick who is Rain Robinson?

She would've probably become the first victim of the Borg Baby Paradox and vanished from our screens, never to be mentioned again.

She is of the astronomers at the SETI lab Henry Starling is funding in FUTURE'S END. She's the girl Tom and Tuvok meet and then ask to help them.

You know I really can't remember her... or that epsiode in fact. I think I need to watch it again.

It's a Season 3 two-parter, the one in which Voyager comes back to Earth in the 20th century.
If I say "Rapper Tuvok", does that ring a bell? :guffaw:

Haha sorry I'm a dumb nut. I remember the epsiode quite well now xD Made me very happy that the doctor got his mobile emitter. And yes I remember the actor thay accompanied Tuvok and Tom? I beileve it was. She was really good! :-)
It's just natural that one cannot remember every single detail. I also tend to forget names even though I'm watching Voyager for the 34th time.
BTW, I've just finished watching DAY OF HONOR. :)

This is more of a general response, but part of me always wished Voyager had gone more in this direction with new crew members added from episodes like this. Maybe not to be in the main cast but as recurring characters. Since they couldn't get new Starfleet personnel when people got killed, and since it started with the merging of crews, it would have been interesting to see them pick up more odd balls like they did with Seven. Some of the 37s joining, maybe a few others.

Yes I agree, it could've been down to a lack of budget I'm not sure but there were so many chracter across the years that I wish could've stayed on the show. From my recent watching I cant remember her name, but the alien that you forget after meeting them she falls in love with Chakotay (Thomas Eugene will know the name of the episode haha, I have a feeling it might be unforgettable). I thought she had a fantastic personality and would've fit in the crew nicely. A real shame she had to leave. As you say they don't have to be permanent characaters they could be like Naomi and Icheb who just return every few episodes.

Her name was Kellin and yes, the ep is called UNFORGETTABLE. I like it, too!
As for additions, I still think Rain Robinson would've been the best. Or Gotana-Retz from BLINK OF AN EYE would have been great, too.
But really, wouldn't the greatest addition have been if we could have been aboard Voyager as ourselves? Now that would have been unforgettable, LOL, :rommie:!

Haha defenitly would be unforgettable! Nice pun there :p. Would've been amazing to go on board, from the interviews and panels I hear it was quite the atmosphere (With a rather large amount of farting). I've been watching lots of odds and ends from different series recently I'll rewatch blink of an eye tonight, give myself a little reminder :)
