Legacies: Captain to Captain cover revealed

I like the cover for the book, however, I kind of wish that it had been painted. It's nice that it features characters rather than just a ship, but like No Time Like The Past I think the cover could've been better had it been painted, like Vulcan' Glory (original), rather than the Photoshop montage that is being shown, where you can tell someone just took a frame of film (Number One looks like she was cut out of the transporter scene where Spock shouts "The Women!") and then just pasted in front of the background.
I doubt that most publishers these days are willing to shell out the money for a cover painting, when they can likely get it done faster & cheaper with Photoshop.

That explains why CrossCult's German translation usually cost around twice as much as the original.

Yeah. But in many cases the new covers look better. And you have to pay for the translation. But I prefer Cross Cult's better qualitiy of their paper on which the novels are printet.

To clarify, I love the concept of a female nemesis for Kirk and Spock. I just think that the execution of the Romulan Commander in "The Enterprise Incident" was lacking.
If only the current IDW miniseries Manifest Destiny featured Romulans instead of Klingons. I would love to see a more than one-shot appearance by the Abramsverse version of the Romulan commander from "The Enterprise Incident". I found "The Khitomer Conflict" arc's take on the Romulan commander from "Balance of Terror" to be lacking.

I don't think very many books have painted covers these days. Even the few that are "painted", probably aren't painted by hand with actual paint.

Not to give too much away, but we do provide a name, for convenience's sake.

Whether it's her actual name is another issue . . ...
Not too surprising. You can dance around that sort of thing in a comic book (as Byrne has done in his Number One stories). It's a LOT harder to pull that off in prose.

Especially when (tease!) you're dealing with her at various different stages in her life, not just when she was Pike's "Number One."

Trust me, "Ensign Number One" does not work in prose . . . . " :)

Or you could go the Victorian route, and always call her N-. :p
This I like. Predictably, I suppose.

"She does a good job, all right. It's just that I can't get used to having a woman on the bridge."
—— looked back at the captain. Where did Star Fleet dig up these sexist fossils? It was the 23rd or 22nd century depending on who you asked, after all. Or maybe the 27th. Fuck you, asshole, she thought to her self, but suppressed all external emotion to limit herself to glaring.
Pike barely noticed, of course. "No offense, Lieutenant ——. You're different, of course."
Sorry I don't conform to your preconceived notions of femininity, —— fumed. Probably he'd been reading r/TheRedPill again. Next landing party, she'd set her laser pistol to overload and kill both of them at the first opportunity. It would be worth it.

True.

Yeah, but the characters look very stiff and kind of odd in the way they are standing, because they were, onscreen, reacting to something else that was very different. Whereas when I look at the first cover of Vulcan's Glory, sure Pike's face is similar to how it appeared in The Cage on it's approach to Talos IV, but the graphic artist was able to change it subtly enough to make it work with the story. Plus the artist was able to include other characters and scenes from the book. But when you compare the cover to Greg Cox's 2013 novel The Weight Of The Worlds, it doesn't even measure up, even though TWOTW was clearly painted in a computer.

Just found out, btw, that there's going to be audiobook versions of all three LEGACIES books. (They're actually recording Book 1 tomorrow.)
Interesting. Do you know (and if so can you share) who's publishing the audio versions?

(S&S sometimes does their own audios, but have also sometimes let other audio publishers handle them as well, as in the case of their two Gears of War tie-in novels...)
