Legacies: Captain to Captain cover revealed

Interesting. Do you know (and if so can you share) who's publishing the audio versions?

(S&S sometimes does their own audios, but have also sometimes let other audio publishers handle them as well, as in the case of their two Gears of War tie-in novels...)

It's listed on the S&S website.

Thanks. At least I know where I can buy a DRM-free download for S&S-published titles, even if I can't get it on MP3-CD as I'd prefer. :)

Cool, nice tie-in! Or serendipity in action, whichever it is. :)

Yes, Number One is an intriguing character, partly because, like Pike, she was a significant part of the Enterprise crew in its pre-Kirk days. It's only natural to imagine if that crew had adventures on a par with the ones we saw from Kirk & company. She's also intriguing just by virtue of how much we don't know about her. What's her real name? Is she human or an alien? Why is she the first officer when she apparently only a Lieutenant? It's fun to imagine that stuff.

Ironically, whenever I rewatch "The Cage" or "The Menagerie" these days, I'm struck how how flat Barrett's performance is. While I like the character, I can see why the network wanted to recast her.

With Barrett, I was just reading the author's afterword in the 2006 reprint of D.C. Fontana's Vulcan's Glory and I noticed that Fontana mentions that she actually interviewed Barrett and got her opinion on Number One's back story for that novel. I don't know how much of it Greg Cox will use in his new novel (I realize that it could be none), but I just found that interesting that apparently years after playing the character Barrett still helped to add to the character.

I think it's long overdue to have new Star trek Audio books for the 50th anniversary. :bolian:This is great news

When Majel was preparing for the role, she created a backstory for Number One. Of course, this never became part of Gene's Writers' Bible, although if the pilot had gone to series, her material may have influenced scripts. But, yes, DC Fontana used some of Majel's thought processes from the 60s in "Vulcan's Glory".

I was already looking forward to the books, but getting audiobooks is an awesome plus. Is there any word on upcoming other audiobooks?

It's unabridged, good. I am disappointed they didn't get any of the Trek actors to read it though. I might have been tempted if they had gotten one of the TOS actors or even somebody with a TOS connection to read it.

Still hoping for a German release - at leat one day, as they (Cross Cult) have their own projects.

I was under the impression that Cult Cross have been releasing in German pretty much all the Trek novels released in the last decade and a half, so I'm curious as to know why you're "still" hoping for a German release when this is the case and the Books not out in non-German yet.

Actually they haven't published nearly as much as you think. And especially TOS is a series on the backburner at Cross Cult since in contrast to the US it just does not sell well.
Apparently TOS releases are money losers for them which is why they only have one or two releases per year. The Main reason they published older novels like Mudd in your Eye was because there already were unused translations.
