Lucifer - Season 1

I think this is Lucifer's first 'vacation', which has been going on for five years when we first saw him. I doubt he has any family relationship with Chleo, but that does not mean she does not have something interesting going on. IIRC in the very first show he asks her if Dad sent her.

Glad to hear it. I've really enjoyed the last couple episodes. I loved Maz going to see Dr. Linda.
Meeting Chloe's mom was fun.
So did Malcolm actually kill Dan or just knock him out?

Yup, Dan was just knocked out. Malcolm needed him alive to take the fall.

And Lucifer has finally figured out what we guessed weeks ago -- he's not mortal except when he's with Chloe. Although it seems he's vulnerable to injury by anyone, himself included, as long as he's in her company. Which seems a bit inconsistent. We know his persuasion power doesn't work on her, but we also know he can use it on others when she's around. So it's not like she's his kryptonite, shutting down his supernatural abilities.

The "Lucifer decides to be charitable" bit was typically broad, but kind of fun. I liked how Chloe and Lucifer independently solved the mystery in their own separate ways. The thing with Maze and Amenadiel is weird, though. I guess, I dunno, maybe he feels guilty about taking out a hit on Lucy and he's acting out?

It just dawned on me watching tonight's episode. Tom Ellis' performance as Lucifer reminds me of George Hamilton.

So this really is an entertaining show. It has an extremely entertaining character at its center. Lucifer was great tonight (as he is most episodes), and I hope they can keep him like this for a long time, because I'd gladly watch this show for years.

So how's this going to play out now? He knows he's only in danger when he's around her, but he's going to end up throwing himself into the line of fire to save her, right?

So you guys were right about his mortality/vulnerability being due to Chloe.
The stuff with Lucifer doing good was a lot of fun.
Maze and Amenadiel was a bit weird.
The resolution of the stuff with Malcolm was not what I expected.

Honestly, I'm still lukewarm on the show. It's moderately fun, but it tends to be rather broad and unsubtle, and Lucifer's antics and Ellis's one-note smug-and-naughty delivery get a little tiresome at times. I find my attitude toward it is less "Ooh, I can't wait" and more "Do I want to bother watching? Oh, I might as well."

It's fun for what it is. Tom and Lauren are fun to watch together. Tom makes a fun Devil. Bring on season 2.

Ah, we've finally moved beyond the lame police procedural stuff to more of the mythos. Looks like the season will end on a high note.

'Aren't you supposed to be blonde?' Heh heh, good one. Checking out Chloe's back, it's amazing how well she puts up with Lucifer's weirdness. Malcolm was great in this episode, he's become the Joker. Life in hell will do that to you, I suppose. Good stuff.

'Aren't you supposed to be blonde?' Heh heh, good one.

I didn't get that one. Unless it's a reference to Dashiell Hammett writing that Sam Spade "looked rather pleasantly like a blond Satan," which is the only connection I could turn up on Google.

The show is always best when it delves into the mythology behind its premise and into Lucifer's psychology beyond the snarky sex-fiend business. I like the idea that he resents getting blamed for evil when his job was actually to punish evil. Although he's never seemed to care that much about the death of innocents before it was blamed on him.

And the mystery of Chloe's true nature is also interesting, so I'm glad that's finally become part of the text. Lucifer is basically going through the same theories that the audience has been considering online. I hope we get the answer in next week's season finale.

Unusual for an episode of a mystery procedural to end with the killer identified but not arrested. But I guess this is effectively a 2-parter. Anyway, I have to admit, I expected the crazy street preacher to be the actual killer. I figured that pretty much from the moment he stormed into the theater. Although it was implausible that the detectives would mistake what was obviously an upside-down W cufflink for an M. Maybe if they'd used a different font, it could've worked, but nobody would look at a W shaped like that -- with serifs, no less! -- and see an M.

Checking out Chloe's back, it's amazing how well she puts up with Lucifer's weirdness.

That scene didn't make sense to me. After all, he saw her naked a couple of weeks ago. Wouldn't he have gotten a look at her back then?

The Sandman comics version of Lucifer which is where the inspiration for the series came from was based on either Sting or David Bowie, I can't remember for sure.
This was a great episode. I was glad to see them focus so much on the main arc rather than a case of the week.
I loved Lucifer's reaction to the Satanists.
