He did do a complicated dance around the issue of Benedict Cumberbatch being Khan in STID and denied that he was playing the role. Until it was revealed that he was.
J.J. loves to have fun with the fans.

I guess that makes her just one of the kids at the Jedi Academy, then.
^^
The popular interpretation of Rey's vision is that the guy Kylo kills with a lightsaber was attacking Lil'Rey at the Academy. The memories are connected to a) Luke's lightsaber or b) Rey's childhood. So if Rey wasn't present at that scene, and Luke's lost saber wasn't there, why was it in the vision?

"What I meant was that she doesn't discover them in Episode Seven. Not that they might not already be in her world."
I never heard those things. Interesting. So her vision was just completely random images then? Or were they connected to a) Luke's saber, b) Kylo, c) her childhood?
I don't see why people get so worked up over stuff like this.^ The vision is ABOUT her, but most of the imagery in it isn't directly connected TO her.
Not sure if that makes sense, but that's what the situation is.
Switching subjects, I don't want to call myself a Star Wars fan right now because Abrams' comment has brought out the absolute worst in some people to the point they're acting like petulant children "taking their balls and going home" and being sexist prigs.
The popular interpretation of Rey's vision is that the guy Kylo kills with a lightsaber was attacking Lil'Rey at the Academy.
There's also the fact that Kylo sees she dreams about Luke's Island. Why would she dream about that if he wasn't her father?
Obviously at that point in the development process, Baby Luke was supposed to have been on Dagobah at some point
when Luke arrives at Dagobah he says it feels familiar like something in a dream.
To me it makes more sense that her vision was directly connected to her; flashing to her father and grandfather at Cloud City, seeing her father's anguish at the Academy Massacre, a Knight of Ren almost killing her at the same event but getting saved by Kylo, Kylo dropping her off on Jakku...
But I can accept a secondary explanation of the vision showing her things that will come to be important to her; Luke, Kylo, and accepting the need to let go of her parents coming back for her on Jakku.
There's also the fact that Kylo sees she dreams about Luke's Island. Why would she dream about that if he wasn't her father? Just because because he would become an important mentor to her in the future? To be fair, when Luke arrives at Dagobah he says it feels familiar like something in a dream. (Obviously at that point in the development process, Baby Luke was supposed to have been on Dagobah at some point, and their mother was supposed to be alive since Leia remembers her in ROTJ)
^ Doesn't work because any such child would've been present when Anakin and Padme showed up.
