Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Because it takes place in a bunch of books, and effects both them and the Earth? It may just be the Avengers (and some random people) involved, but its as much an event as all of the small X-Men events of the last few years (like Schism or Age of X).

I'm liking Standoff pretty well. Its done some interesting stuff, and hopefully its the final nail in the coffin for

Maria Hill's career. She's been going progressively more nuts as head of SHIELD, everything from memory manipulation of agents to just doing really stupid things. I can't see her staying around after this. Maybe they'll make Coulson the Director, to fit the TV show. Sure, his backstory is different in the comics, but they basically took the original "Coulson in name only" version from his first comic appearance and turned him into the MCU version (thank god for that, the version the comic went with was so bland). So, I could see him being made director. Its not like there is anyone else, unless they want to make the lame Fury,jr into the director.

 

If the Avengers go to a water park, do they have to wait in any of the lines?

Surely there's an "I saved the world" express queue?

 

Tony pays for the Fast Pass for all of them.

 

Is it racist to worry about sharing a pool with green people?

I'd find it dandy to go down a tube slide behind She-Hulk, but there's no way in hell I want her cousin following me down that same tube.

 

Moon Knight #1 is excellent. Haven't read Mockingbird #2 yet, but I loved #1.

I'd better not get too attached. They probably both won't last long (though I think Mockingbird is supposed to be a short book). I still miss Black Knight and wish it had been given more of a chance. And I don't think Hawkeye is going to last, either. Hasn't been in the last two solicitations for Marvel, but I haven't heard any cancellation news.

I also really enjoyed the issue. When they released the 4-5 non-colored pages out of context 2 months ago I was a bit concerned. Having read the issue and seeing what seems to be in play I'm intrigued. The last MK series went 18 issues so I'm optimistic. Lemire is a solid writer, his Bloodshot over at VALIANT comics is great as well. I think MK only ended cause of Secret Wars like so many other series and that's why it's being relaunched like the others(Black Widow, Punisher, Ant-man, Silver Surfer).

I also lament Black Knight's passing, it has been officially cancelled. Issue #5 was the last w/13,400 copies sold.
Mockingbird #2 is still in my 'to read' pile as well. However, concerns for it are probably legit. Issue #1 sold 42K copies for reference.

The last several years any female led solo book not named Captain/Ms.Marvel or Black Widow hasn't gone past 12 issues.

It sucks, but to be fair some of those series were pretty bad. I don't think I've ever heard a kind word about the Female Ghost Rider, and Elektra and Storm were both really meh. Scarlet Witch is just bad, but with Robinson that was not unexpected. Spider-Woman needs Bendis back now, the current writer is bad and I'm shocked its made it past 5 issues. I still don't know why Spider-Gwen is a thing. I am liking Silk a good deal, but based on those numbers it will probably be lucky to get to issue #12 A lot of my favorite superheroes are female characters, and a lot of my favorite comics have female leads, but even good books with them tend to sell poorly nowadays. Its a hard industry for any hero comic that isn't one of the HUGE names.

 

Black Knight's story was really getting good. It should have been given a couple more issues to really finish it.

I was wrong about Hawkeye, maybe. #6 is out next week.

I like Alejandra as the female Ghost Rider. I admit it took a few issues for me to warm up(probably where everyone else was bailing) but by issue6/7 it was clear where it was going. It was going to turn out to be a mentor/mentoree type book with Johnny acting as the surrogate Dad she needed in the first place after her cult surrogate Dad treated her like trash. She was a Nicaraguan orphan for those not up to speed. I had hoped she might appear in the all female Fearless Defenders but that didn't happen.

I only read the first 5 issue arc of Elektra myself.
After only 3 issues of Storm didn't feel compelled to continue
Pregnant Jessica Drew wasn't a hook for me nor is new mother Jessica Drew
I'm still reading Scarlet Witch and don't seem to have the disdain for Robinson as others but admit it could be tighter.
Mockingbirds new solo is really a first for me with the character. She was always background fare to me in books I read with her. So I'm curious, largely due to TV's Agents of Shield.
I also don't get why Spider-Gwen is still a thing or GwenPool for that matter.
Haven't read Silk. I'm just indifferent on her, maybe a TPB one day if I find a dealer at a con blowing out books for $5

 

Scarlet Witch is a great book.

 

I'm on the fence with Scarlet Witch. I enjoyed the first issue of Mockingbird, but I haven't read issue 2 yet. I'm still enjoying the new Black Widow book. I always try out new books with Natasha, but they rarely grab me.

 

i thought the first issue of Mockingbird was alright. i really like Silk. they managed to salvage the character after her first wacky appearance in Amazing Spidey. and the art is great too.

 

Yeah, I wasn't sold on Silk when she appeared in ASM, but I gave her solo book a chance and liked it. As for Mockingbird, its different, but the first two issues have been pretty good. I also like how its not ignoring bendis's Avengers run where she almost died and got injected with the infinity formula. I don't remember Secret Avengers really mentioning it (although the plot point about it is a bit ridiculous in her book).

Black Widow isn't impressing me. the last series was pretty good, but this one is starting out as just about the most cliched Black Widow story they could tell, with this being about the 12,000th time a secret she wants to keep is forcing her to do something. I like the character, but if Waid's BW doesn't change it up soon I'll probably stop reading.

 

Mockingbird #2 was fun. I like that each issue ties back to the first, with Bobbi having to check in with the medics in the middle of her missions!

 

That part I have mixed feelings about. She's had... the reason she has to check in with medics (trying to be vague because of spoilers) since (in real world time) 2013 or 14, near the end of bendis's Avengers run. With how much weird stuff Marvel characters go through, there is no way she'd still be constantly monitored what is probably at least a year later in universe, especially since she was injected with stuff they were fairly familiar with (at least I think they are, the Original Sin Nick Fury retcon might have messed with whether the stuff she was injected with was actually used before).

 

i've liked Waid's Black Widow thus far. the whole SHIELD against X character has been done before but i trust Waid to make it interesting.

 

He definitely could, but these days he's way too hit or miss to guarantee anything. He can still do great stuff, but he has done almost as much mediocre stuff as good stuff the last few years, like his Daredevil run or the really unimpressive All New All Different Avengers. He's not the solid writer he was a few years ago, and I can easily see Black Widow being a boring rehash of a bunch of other spy/Black Widow stories.

 

Isn't it weird that there's a Moon Knight comic, and a Moon Girl comic coming out at the same time, from Marvel, and that they have nothing to do with each other?

Mockingbird - it's fair, I'll finish out 6 issues but I'm not overly impressed
Scarlet Witch - is above average and I enjoy it despite the rotating artists on the book
Black Widow - a character I really like having the most blah opening arc with a cliche been there story that shouldn't be the story. Waid, I don't feel you chose well thus far. I really enjoyed Edmondson's run
Moon Knight - so far really good and I'm optimistic that Lemire is taking Marc back to a more classic and imo correct version of the character. Steering away from the path Huston put writers on by wrongly hinting or suggesting Marc has a mental disorder. I hope that's where Lemire is going at least. Signs look promising.
Agents of SHIELD - I like this book that uses the TV team with Deathlok and Mockingbird in roles more akin to their comic roles.
Punisher - the first issue was pretty decent. Not a fan of Dillon art. This series has solid shoes to fill cause I loved Rucka's run and thought Edmondson's run was a very solid followup. It played well as a sequel series even having Rachel Cole-Alves in for an issue from Rucka's run.
