But the money used to furnish their sound stage came from donations to make a Star Trek film, therefore doesn't their ability to produce Gerrold's work come as a direct result of misuse of the Star Trek IP??
Clearly it was recorded this week as Mr. Gerrold mentions Star Trek Beyond being released in select Barco Escape theaters. That was only announced on Monday, the 11.Plus, although uploaded on the 13th April, I wonder when it was recorded?
Did one of them actually say that? I don't have time to watch the video right now, so I can't see for myself.Hold the presses people! The definition of 'fan film' now includes multi-million dollar, officially produced movies made by the holders of the intellectual property.
Yeah Alec did.Did one of them actually say that? I don't have time to watch the video right now, so I can't see for myself.
Mr. "I have no dog in this fight..." spouts nonsense again - big surprise. Personally I am amazed that with a pending litigation in process -Alec Peters CONTINUES to talk about 'Axanar'. The man (supposedly an 'attorney by training'); seems oblivious to the fact that this all demonstrates a willful pattern of actions (in this case copyright infringement) - and should he receive a Judgement against him - everything he's said and done can be brought up in the 'damages' phase and have an effect on how much of a damages award C/P will receive. I can't believe how utterly stupid Mr. Peters is with regard to his overall response to being a plaintiff in a major lawsuit - where all the evidence to date CLEARLY SHOWS he has infringed on Star Trek copyrighted material. It boggles the mind.
A conversation with Doe-vid Gerrold by Alec Peters?

No way that works. Peters would be blabbing five seconds after signing the agreement.
There's a thought like that going around in my mind too! He'll just file for bankruptcy again if things don't break his way.

Actually, considering what has been discussed elsewhere in this thread about Propworx, I have a question. As has been mentioned before, if he loses, his credability in Trek fan circles should be zero. But how big is the prop collection fan base compared to the general Trek fan base? Probably a difficult figure to accurately establish, but it would be interesting to know.
Obviously, from earlier links, there is probably a knowledgable part of the prop fan base that know how dodgy some of Propworx dealings were alledgedly. So, if he went back to that, could he conceivedly continue as before?
So, are you suggesting that when CBS made the TV show, for example, LIMITLESS based off the movie, they did not need to buy the rights from the movie production company??? And wasn't that movie based on a book? So to further the logic, one doesn't need permission from an author to turn his or her book into a movie or TV show.
I haven't watched the video yet, but I'm thinking I don't really need to be in a hurry.Mr. "I have no dog in this fight..." spouts nonsense again - big surprise. You missed the point. The poster suggested that Paramount, being a movie studio, has no say in what happens on a TV show. Perhaps I needed to lay the sarcasm on thicker. In Trek's case, it's being licensed by CBS to Paramount to make the movies
He says that $30 mil is about the least about Paramount would make a movie for or something.
Clearly Gerrold doesn't even follow the business any more.
Someone told me that he had announced in the Star Trek Prop and Costume forum that his collection was now owned or controlled by a trust, and that he would be selling much of it off. This was a few weeks ago I think.
None of that surprises me. I predicted before page 300 that he'd be squirreling away all his assets, and just dragging the whole thing out to take in more money for the film that he knows will never be made. He seems delusional, but he has a plan, and he moved on from Axanar mentally the day he was served. IMHO
.
To be fair, wasn't the film District 9 filmed for about that amount?I'm sure one could be made for that amount. It would just look like shit.
