What Khan would have done if Kirk had raised the shields?

I can only imagine the battle would be very favorable to the good guys.

But I'm not a superior intellect.

Khan would use the ultimate weapon--send a virus to Enterprise that forces every monitor to show Star Trek The Motion Picture, the Next Generation movies and JJTreks in a loop. The entire Enterprise crew would fight to start the self destruct sequence. Khan wins.

Maybe Khan would have used the Reliant to attack a Klingon K'T'inga. Capture the K'T'inga to draw Kirk's 1701-Refit into another ambush this time with the K'T'inga and Reliant.

Since they were funding the experiments, they would know exactly how many units Khan had. One.

For however in the dark the Federation may have been abotu the Genesis device, it seems kind of clear to me that there was only one. The video Kirk, Spock and McCoy watched about the device refered to it as singular, not plural; the talk about the device elsewhere indicated one instead of one of many.

Further more there was no guess work needed: Carol wasn't killed off in TWoK, all Kirk had to do was ask her and relay that info' to the Federation.

I don't get it. These folks have apparently been in the rags for years. What possible reason would they have to change now?

I think that's a bit different than spending fifteen years in the muck and then having a chance to get a shower. Terrible thinking Khan and his crew died in dirty underwear!

Probably not, but I'm not sure that scenario works in his favour, Starfleet would almost certainly respond with extreme prejudice and he wouldn't be too hard to find given that they knew what ship he was in and that he was in the vicinity of Sol.

With the entire federation now on high alert for sight of the Reliant and a whole fleet hunting for him, his chances would be slim to none, especially as the threat of using such an (imagined) device would rely on his ability to actually get close to a planet without being shot down on sight.

The simple and most direct answer to the OP is Khan would create a logical reason for Kirk to feel safe and lower his shields.
Such as signal the Enterprise by light beacon that they need an engineering crew to transport over and help them to repair damage. When Enterprise's shields come down, Khan opens fire.
Or for a more personal touch. When the shields come down and the team beams over. Khan sends over boarding parties to kill everyone in sight and fight their way to Main Engineering and the Bridge.

This basically would have been my answer, too.

Would they have been completely sure about that? How would they know he didn't have a copy of the research ready for direct transmission to Romulus and Qo'nos should he be attacked? He would have been able to bargain, for a while. Maybe he would just have created Khan World somewhere, and lived in peace with his dwindling followers?

I liked how Starships used to feel rare and special. I was shocked to see the huge fleets in DS9. It didn't feel right. (I had thought that forty ships at Wolf 359 was a big fleet.)

Kirk not raising the shields and stroking his chin is pretty inexcusable. .I wouldn't want to pass that through a board of inquiry.

Kirk: "Shut yer face, Saavik, you mouthy temptress, can't you see I'm thinkin' here babe? Jez, Spock what type of holiday camp are you runnin' feller?!"

Of course, you'll excuse me as I paraphrase Kirk's bridge oratory from memory.

With a little bit of thought, the writers could've had one of Khan's minions -- the one with a sultry voice -- give a song and dance about the bridge crew being wiped out and that they need assistance for repairs or whatever. Then when Kirk lowers his trousers..his shields.....pew.pew..pew..pew.....

Reliant may have bested Enterprise if there were anything to megaphasers but as a science ship those were probably on lowered power.

Remember, STIII was dead on the heels of this.

With shields up both ships would be less scarred and damage--and Excelsior may have shown up...
