What Khan would have done if Kirk had raised the shields?

I can only imagine the battle would be very favorable to the good guys.

But I'm not a superior intellect.
He would have bluffed that he had Genesis and lured Kirk to Regula, hoping he would lead him to Genesis and the Marcuses.

Both Kirk and Khan had a crew of kids. So the odds might be even, the goose might be sauced and passing on the Christmas tree.

Khan cared little about Genesis. If he could get Kirk simply by blowing up his ship, he'd no doubt happily go for that. And he probably would achieve exactly that, considering his torpedo launcher was already primed, while Kirk's was grated over... Catching Kirk with his pants down was a bonus, which ultimately was Khan's downfall: it allowed him to gloat, and gloating never ends well.

Thrown a tantrum and warped away to scheme up something equally stupid.

I was going to say, piss his pants and run away. But yours works too.

I do have one question: Was Khan's need for revenge so pressing that he and his followers couldn't have gotten showers and changed clothes before rushing off?

So why didn't he?

I thought he got his head turned by the possibilities he could have with such a device. Killing Kirk is one thing, what does he do next with his life and his followers? He'd want nothing less than to reconquer Earth. Genesis was a powerful aide.

Perhaps. But the main possibility open to him was to humiliate Kirk by forcing him to hand over Genesis (or any suitable McGuffin). If Kirk had shields up, he'd have to be killed. Now that Kirk had shields down, he could be humiliated with Genesis, and then killed.

Beyond that, the supergadget wouldn't really be of much help to Khan in his putative future plans. It's but one device, and such a fantastic one that he'd be laughed out of court like Dr. Evil if claiming to possess one - and he couldn't even arrange for a demonstration with his one shot. Even with the "secret" of the device, he couldn't really hope to duplicate it. And he isn't the type to try and sell the secret forth to Klingons, not any more; here his clever scheming days are rather clearly and sadly over.

The simple and most direct answer to the OP is Khan would create a logical reason for Kirk to feel safe and lower his shields.
Such as signal the Enterprise by light beacon that they need an engineering crew to transport over and help them to repair damage. When Enterprise's shields come down, Khan opens fire.
Or for a more personal touch. When the shields come down and the team beams over. Khan sends over boarding parties to kill everyone in sight and fight their way to Main Engineering and the Bridge.

A drawn out stalking battle between Khan's Reliant v. Kirk's 1701-Refit like that was depicted in TOS "Balance of Terror" Kirk v. Romulan.

Agreed. Khan bolstered about his past like a badge of honor, he foresaw his future completely different... until Kirk ruined it. Khan hadn't caught up with Starfleet tech and that was his downfall. I'm sure after dealing with Kirk his next destination would go to Earth and open frequencies to announce that he is Earth's King.

There would either be a battle (which Kirk would eventually win), or Khan would attempt to run with Kirk chasing, and Kirk summoning more ships to intercept.

Spock would figure out there aren't enough people on the ship

Khan didn't have the people to handle battle damage, and you can only reroute systems so many times.

Khan was born to lose, history repeats itself yet again.

Apparently superior genetic super people can't work out how a shower or wardrobe works.

So while the entire movie played out over days, they were standing around in stinking, filthy, sand saturated rags for no reason.

Yeah...

Yeah...

Come on now, if Khan had switched to his "Fantasy Island" duds and turned on the charm, we'd have laughed.

So Federation starships have no clothing onboard other than poorly fitting ugly uniforms and engineering jumpsuits?

Has to be some regular clothing somewhere.

I don't get it. These folks have apparently been in the rags for years. What possible reason would they have to change now?

There's definitely something about Genesis he'd appreciate. He's literally genetically engineering an entire planet. The Khan of planets! He'd probably use it on Earth.

Quite, I don't see why they'd really care. Some of them had Starfleet jackets draped around themselves merely as a symbol of conquest.

Even with the "secret" of the device, he couldn't really hope to duplicate it.
But if he "genesis'ed" Earth, and claimed to have dozens more of the devices, would the rest of the Federation be willing to take the chance he was lying?
