It's vaguely possible that Thomas got the official word from Degaton co-creator John Broome. Broome wasn't active in comics by that point, but Thomas was something of a fanboy himself.
I'm not sure why that matters at all. Just because the word didn't exist at the time the name was first used, that doesn't mean it doesn't rhyme with megaton (which did clearly exist when the fellow said it rhymed with it).
That's an understatement.Thomas was something of a fanboy himself.
I always assumed, that like many the Legion of Super-Heroes' civilian names, it was a futuristic version of a modern name. Possibly Edward and ThorneFor what it's worth, one of his other creations was Eobard Thawne.

That's a retcon by Roy Thomas, who made Degaton an assistant to the scientists in the "Time Trust" from an earlier JSA time travel story.Wikipedia says that (comics) Per Degaton calls 1941 his home, which means that it's possible that he might have been born in the 19th century, depending on if we think he looks older than 41.
Other than that big war.I did read the wiki.
There's not a lot of difference between 1941 and 1947.
I was only meaning that he is from the "present" and not from the distant future come back to screw over the past.
More likely they'd spend a season failing to vaporize Damien Dahrk, episode after episode. The crew could try to go back to 2016 and vaporize Damien Dahrk.
Might cause a few problems for Sara.Go back a thousand years and vaporize the Lazarus Pit.
Yeah. In that regard she has nothing on Ziggy from Quantum Leap.Gideon couldn't look at the fluxing potential timelines to see what the result of kidnapping the kid was, until after they had kidnapped the kid.
Lets just call her near sighted.
If the League doesn't exist, so many historical events that they influenced would be changed that the modern world would be unrecognizable and none of our characters may even have been born.If Merlin isn't part of the League, because it doesn't exist, The Undertaking isn't a thing, so he never sinks the Queens gambit.
Sarah is fine.
