I bet Alec hates this tweet...
Mr. Peters is a lot like Mr. Trump. A lot of people wish we would go away, but spend so much time thinking and talking about him that he doesn't. It's like clapping for Tinkerbelle around here. 702 pages of clapping.

Anyway, I wonder if CBS would mind at all if the proceedings don't take place before the movie is out.

Out of this thread have arisen a variety of specifics that have found their way out into axamonitor, the g&t show, 1701news, and various critical posts on trekmovie and other places. Its a pretty sharp edged mirror.

My guess is CBS would expect Axanar to fold if discovery starts.

LOL on Tinkerbell. But I think he is more like a fish on a hook. They are playing him, letting him run out the line, and he still thinks he can unhook himself.

whatever it was, its already gone

What did it say then?

couldn't find it on google cache, but oddly enough, the post here referencing the tweet already is a google search result. wonder if activity on the thread or searches of it are somehow giving it a higher spider priority.

It was a tweet from Star Wars setting out all of the rules for this year's Fan Film contest

Also, last night I published a response to that silly 'Kobayashi Maru' blog post from Kryptonradio alleging that only by buying Axanar could Paramount save itself from certain doom. It's called, "Which Kobayahi Maru?"

Good rebuttal to an insane argument--and I won't even get into the comments on Kryptonradio.

What makes me crazy with all those who are all "hey, let us just use Star Trek, you suck Paramount," if it was Paramount who was stealing IP from them--their crappy sci fi novel about Dogs fighting an intergalactic band of space witches--they would freak the fuck out.

In some ways, this case is about keeping the protections of copyright for EVERYONE.

Gosh, Carlos, that was another impressive article. It read like you and I had read the same Watkins article because while I read yours I kept shaking my head yes and telling my computer screen "Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking when I read the Watkins one!"

(I mean clearly I know it was the same article we read but also clear is that it is being interpreted differently by different thinkers :))

Quick side question: In all of this Axanar drama, I thought I read somewhere Alec saying he'd read and follows all of CBS' rules regarding fan films. Am I remembering this right? Did he actually say / write that? Does anyone have a link if so? Friends have suggested that if he said it anywhere, he said it here.

Thank you!

^^^In his TBBS thread "Official Star Trek" from April 2012 starting on page one he admonishes others (the following bolding is mine):
"However, CBS expects fan films to act in a manner that does not infringe CBS Intellectual Property and when one production does so, as in this case, it imperils every production."
"And the point is, since nobody is licensed, and CBS is not in talks with anyone to license any fan films, and since we all exist at the pleasure of CBS who could shut these ventures down in a heartbeat, playing by the rules is essential, or else we all could suffer.

I think that is a pretty simple concept to grasp."
Those are in his first two posts; #1 & #6. I believe there are more so that thread may be an easy place to start looking.

Oh, and he does say in his Star Trek: Axanar thread September 2012 announcing his production, only 6 months after posting those admonitions to others, that he had been working on his script for almost two years, which includes well before he posted his admonitions to others, therefore it would be entirely logical and reasonable to infer his admonitions to others would also be followed by him with his own production. (the following bolding is mine)
"I have been working on "Axanar" now for almost two years, slowly writing the script with John Muenchrath and now Dave Galanter. James Cawley has been supporting this project and commited Phase II sets to the project.

It was James who got the ball rolling when he asked me to portray Captain Garth in "The Protracted Man" in a great scene where Garth and the Admiral are watching young Kirk blow up the Kobayashi Maru. The Admiral thinks Kirk is trouble, but Garth sees potential.

That lead to me writing a treatment, which Marco Plamieri, the former Star Trek editor at Pocket Books, reviewed and gave feedback on. Before writing the script, I took a Robert McKee seminar (the godfather of screenplay writing) with Doc John, read McKee's book and the script is now almost done. Dave Galanter and I have been working it for 6 months now.

This past summer I played a restored Captain Garth in the "Going Boldly" vignette, and that story, of how Garth comes back to Starfleet, will be featured in our first vingette, which is a bumper story, set on the Enterprise just after "Whom Gods Destroy". In the vignette, titled "Heroes", Kirk and the Enterprise pick up Captain Garth from Elba II and bring him back to Starfleet, and we see Garth dealing with what has happened.

"Axanar" is a one-shot feature and will be about 75 minutes long. It will be shot both at the Phase II sets, and here in L.A. at my warehouse, which we are emptying out for use as a sound stage.

It has a rather large budget for a fan film, all funded by me, and being based in L.A., we hope to be able to attract a lot of talented people. Christian Gossett, who created "The Red Star" graphic novel, which is in development at Warner Brothers, will be directing."

After a harrowing adventure at great personal risk to myself and cost the lives of 10 operatives bringing this across enemy lines, I have procured a secretly taped meeting of Alec & Co. trying to deal with the cluster **** (Axanar) of their own making. As you can see for yourself, the Andorian Ice Coffee is their undoing ......

I read that STO thread, and keep coming across the 'It's best for both if CBS just licences...' argument.

Here's a thought Axanar fans: CBS might not want their name associated with your product.

Coz get this: Axanar is not good (and Axanar is not bad), because at the moment Axanar doesn't exist. Hell, according to Alec snd Co. they don't even have a script! Throw in fanfilms (as a whole) average level of quality, and Axanar could potentially be so embarrassingly shitty that fans will start calling Nemesis an under-appreciated masterpiece.

Even the network that aired the 'Star Wars Holiday Special' can be wary of courting some unnecessary shame.

But alas, that such a train of thought requires acknowledging that CBS literally can't be suing due to 'jealousy' of a non-existant movie's non-existant quality.
