It would have hurt an otherwise awesome ending, but the Jem'hadar could have been saved.
Sisko and our heroes could have heavily stunned the Jems, put them in stasis and got them back to Dominion space for the KW. Then apprehended the worm, Keevan, gotten info from him and locked his sorry ass in a penal institution.

Yes, I like the Jem'hadar
Yes, it would have ruined a ST that really made you feel uncomfortable at the end

The thing that bugs me is that by not ambushing the Jem'Hadar like Keevan suggested, Sisko got one of his people killed. Sure, honor and all that, but in war you have to prioritize your own people before the dignity of the enemy.

Can the UFP manufacture Ketracel White or a reasonable facsimile at that point of the show?

In "One Little Ship", there's talk about UFP prisoner-of-war camps; are these just death camps for starving Jem'Hadar, or do the camps in fact consist of row upon row of stasis chambers? If the UFP can produce White instead, then imprisoning the Jem'Hadar might have been more attractive than sending them back with whatever intel they have.

Then again, the Jem'Hadar were on the verge of madness and death already, and Sisko had no hope of timely rescue yet. Sisko's promise of "sedating" the Jem'Hadar thus sounds hollow, as they would presumably still be alive and therefore still starving, albeit possibly a bit more slowly.

I THINK Bashir wanted just to get them back to Dominion space so the KW could be administered. You're right, don't think the Feds could produce the KW.

That's a good point, why bring your men into harm's way. They had the strategical adv.

I don't think either Sisko's party or Keevan's party had a stasis chamber. The Starfleet party would have had to pull it out of their sinking Jem Hadar ship and get it to shore, but they had little more than the clothes on their backs. If they did have one, they would have used it to keep Dax safe and comfortable until rescue. If the Jem Hadar party had one, they could have put most of the Jem Hadar in stasis so they wouldn't need Ketracel White. Stasis chambers seem like a bit of a luxury for Jem Hadar; they seem to regard the chances of being killed as just part of the game. Since both groups were in Jem Hadar ships, probably no stasis chambers available for either of them.
