Macross Delta (tv). Coming in 2016.

Well, if you like Macross AND you liked AKB0048, you'll love this.

I love Macross and I really liked AKB0048 (no small coincidence given Shoji Kawamoi's involvement in both). April can't come sooner! If only they had some of the merch out now, I'll be in Japan in two weeks. ;)

The show holds up pretty well with repeated viewings. Watched it again with my six year-old and once the work mecha started dancing, she got hooked (despite not being able to read the fansubs). My wife is a singer (and has even covered some J-pop over the years) and as with Frontier, she came to like it too.

And of course, it had GIANT ROBOT SPLOSIONS, so I was happy. :) I'm looking forward to how the story will unfold. We were told it the setup involved people singing to counteract a plague that's been inducing violent outbreaks on the outer rim of the Galaxy. That's Macross-esque as it is, but the premiere throws a faction of humanity who seem to be using this "Var Syndrome" to their advantage, and have a beef against a quartet of cute singing girls and their hotshot pilot partners. It seems a better evolution at the outset than Frontier, and takes using music as a weapon (and a plot device) further down a logical path for this universe. Looking forward to the rest.

And not that it makes much of a difference, but oddly enough Frontier and 7 were set towards the galactic core and involved ancient alien threats, while Plus and now Delta are more rimward and involve menaces from within the futuristic society. Coincidence?

Day-um I'm hyped for this. Been a Macross fan since the 1980s and my graduation from Robotech (which will forever have a special place for me), but Macross is essential viewing for myself and my wife, and hopefully my daughter once she learns to read. Bring it on!

The first episode has aired AND fansubs are already out.

BIG NEWS....it's just been annouced that the official Blurays will come with English subtitles. :)

I do. I never find the dubs to not fit the characters. I loved Macross Frontier, and I'm currently enjoying the OAV on Youtube, which are subtitled, the animation is improved and they've added new scenes and the new music. This series was as good as Macross Plus. And an improvement to Macross Zero.

DvS is a constant debate with no answer. I prefer subs but have enjoyed a good dub from time to time.

Harmony Gold will apparently never allow new Macross to be Macross outside of Japan, so a dub will likely never be a feasible option. As such, I'm glad people can have subtitles at least.

As for the show itself, it was great. The final broadcast version tightened up a bit on the editing and lost a couple scenes, but added the key missing stuff we've been waiting for. And it was worth the wait! I was only slightly miffed by the replace the cliffhanger with a whole OTHER cliffhanger, but it was great regardless. The songs are growing on me, and the story has been engaging and makes me want to know more. A great start to the next entry in the Macross universe!
