How do you determine the post number?

Currently says 5,998,786 for me, but that should be obsolete as soon as I click "Post Reply"...

It is 5,998,847 (+ one more) now! And I don't think that it is real-time. It adds new posts only once in a while.

Hmm, so it looks like we've had about 757 posts in roughly the last 18 hours, so an average of approximately 42 posts/hour (seems kinda appropriate...). So with 1153 posts left to go, it should take about 27.5 hours from now, so we should hit 6 million Monday evening/night (at least here in North America). We should have some sort of celebration!

(Assuming the posting rate is roughly constant to what it has been over the last 18 hours, which I have no idea if this would be a reasonable assumption or not!)

Note the current count, post a post, hover over one of the links below your post that show the ID, such as "Delete" or "Reply," calculate the offset from the current count to 6,000,000, and add that offset to the ID. That will be post 6,000,000. The path to the post will be http://trekbbs.com/posts/<ID>.

So posting this to get the ID and while the current post is 5,999,307, I get:

http://www.trekbbs.com/posts/11529794 will be post 6,000,000. This link will get an error until the post exists.

I did this late at night while traffic is low and confirmed the post count had not changed while doing the calculation.

Page refresh to see the current post count. If even that isn't a true representation, there's probably nothing better without looking directly at the database. I did this at a very quiet time, so I think it's accurate. The link should work regardless.
