Yeah, very true. For some reason it just really worked for me in the movie though. Could've been a heat of the moment/kick-ass action thing but even listening to it on YT I still like it, anachronistic and all.

I think BvS sets up for both Bats and (born-again) Supes to be more positive in future films. And with the JLA on the way, it's sort of "twilight of the gods" in reverse.

It's a shame they're breezing through the Death and Return of Superman like this, just like they did in the animated movie. I actually really love that entire saga, from Death to Funeral to the Four Supermen to Coast City and Mongul. That could make a really great 2-3 movie saga.
Movie 1: Doomsday's rampage, Superman dies, the funeral, ends with the 4 Supermen appearing
Movie 2: showing all 4 Supermen in action, ending with Coast City getting nuked and the Cyborg "killing" the Eradicator, and showing Superman in his cocoon in the Fortress.
Movie 3: Superman returns to lead everyone against Mongul and the Cyborg in Coast City

Currently 3/4 of of the way through Kevin Smith's review. It's great if you want to hear a pothead rambling and telling you the exact plot of the movie, while widely missing the point on a couple of occasions.
For example, he seems to think Batman telling Superman he (Supes) is "not a man" is some sort of macho BS, when I think it's pretty obvious Bats means Supes is not human.
And a thought about the Martha/Martha thing - bear in mind, this isn't realism, this is opera.

You know it's kind of funny, Luthor actually seemed to win in the end seeing as his whole plan was just to kill Superman.
Good point. The thing that kills me is all the people who are genre fans, whether it's Trek, Wars, Comics, whatever, that are willing to overlook some of the stupidest shit, but apparently this film is where they draw line? Centuries old Thor learns humility in a few days because he's powerless? We have the Hubble which has shown us thousands of galaxies, but Starfleets exponentially more powerful sensors and scanners miss a planetary explosion and it's resultant debris? Despite massive differences in the timeline, apparently the classic crew are all born and stationed on the ISS Enterprise? Even more unrealistic all the DS9 counterparts end up on DS9 as well? The Flash can alter the timeline, but everything is still pretty much how he left it despite Hartley now being a friend who's presence would've altered a shit ton of The Flash between that episode and last nights episode. Black Widow had a face changing device which pretty much made the first hour and a half of The Winter Soldier pointless because they could've just used that to avoid having to go on the run and could've infiltrated Hydra at their convenience. Let's not even get into all the shit from comic books.
So no, given all the crazier shit I've overlooked over the years, neither the "Martha" thing, nor anything else in the movie bothered me all that much or hurt my enjoyment of the film.

The boy scout comment came from Frank Miller's TDKReturns, as a pejorative insult to Superman's character. It's seeped into pop culture and painted Superman as a square with no edge.
In extended cuts of it (some of which have been available pre-Dark Knight Returns) he does. There's a scene omitted from the theatrical cut where Superman has to overcome some hi-tech booby traps to get to Lex in his lair, machine guns, flame throwers and freezing equipment, all the while being monitored by Lex via CCTV. At the beginning of the sequence there's the following exchange between Lex and Miss Tesmarcher:
Lex: Look at that overgrown boy scout Miss Tessmarcher, tell me what you see?
Miss T: Cuteness, dimples!
Lex: You like cuteness, dimples?
And I'm convinced references to Superman as a boyscout pre-date 1977 when that scene was shot.

IIRC, Otis also used the "overgrown boy scout" reference in the first prison scene in Superman II, when recapping the events of the first film.
