The production qualities were good, many of the actors performed well, and the documentary concept had potential, but it was just so empty to me. I marveled at the claim that "this is what Star Trek is supposed to be!" To me, it was even more vapid than the JJ films and bore no resemblance whatever to classic Trek. That's to say nothing of "Queen Bitch Whore." I have no issue with vulgarity in art, but that was patently un-Trek and contradictory to their stated vision for the project.
Oh believe me, any uncomplimentary language I reserve for the mind that, it turns out, believed the world wanted an installment of PewdiePie FireTorps in the Temple of Gary Stu Righteousness for 2 million bucks. I really, really was hoping he would listen to advice (which had to be available), and achieve a great story. He may still have a chance... if they manage some how to emerge with the means to do some other production, he could still ask for someone to help on whatever property he next wants to write for. And maybe, his final, final, [not final], locked [not] script is so vastly improved that it proves all reactions to drafts to be utterly misguided. If so, I for one would be happy for him, even if its doomed as a movie by this group now, and probably doomed to never be published in his name if an injunction against him is granted. It could circulate samizdat.
I'm somewhat surprised that Richard Hatch hasn't distanced himself from the production. So far, Tony Todd seems to be the only cast member to have disentangled himself from Axanar.
Wasn't he supposed to be one of the panelists at that recent con where only the woman and Alec spoke? Wondercon, legacy and future of BSG. or was that pic from a different con?
Richard Hatch (Captain Apollo, Tom Zarek, Kharn, Axanar) hosts a panel and fan discussion on the legacy and creative direction any forthcomingBattlestar Galactica movie or series should take. Panelists include producerAlec Peters (Propworx, Axanar), Dr. Kevin Grazier (science consultant, Battlestar, Eureka, and Falling Skies), andRob Burnett (Free Enterprise). The panel also includes surprise guests,Battlestar Galactica videos, comic reels, and a Q&A.
Out of all the pros involved, he surprises me the least. He's always been a bit of a crusader. He fought for years for a BSG sequel, down to producing his own trailer for it (which is, I think, out there if you look hard enough). Seems right up his alley to me.
Now Graham on the other hand... If I were him, I'd be worried that I'd be unemployable when the 2017 production hits. Could be wrong about that though; I have no idea how politics work in Hollywood.
More power to Mr. Hatch for giving life energy to fan efforts. I think he was blindsided on this one.
Probably alot of politics going on with the actors...
Gary Graham in a fan film as a vulcan is probably in the middle and the studio wouldn't want to deal with that mess.
What they probably fear is visits every week from very earnest, costumed Vulcans lobbying their VP offices and picketing the studio for his reinstatement. "Reason for Logic Reenactors"... "No Vulcans, no Pon Farr"...
It's actually not funny, but very well done. I can't search for it at the moment, but it was called "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming." If crowdfunding had been a thing back then, I think he could have made it.
He got a solid alternate role on BSG, shows the respect he has.
