CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I don't have anyone on ignore YET..........but I don't understand half of what he posts. But he seems to think he is extremely witty. He could be and I might just have a very low IQ.....who knows.
KennyB, PhaserLightShow, I'm not trying to play mini mod here, but it's worth remembering that the mods here always stress that the rules are POSTs are fair game while comments about POST-ERs are not, and comments like the above are fairly obviously the latter.

If a post is fair game, then a comment about posters must be too (because it is also a post).

I'm going to leave it to the mods to address if they see fit. I was pointing specifically to KennyB's comment and the discussion about ignoring said poster.

Whatever. Been here 15 years without being taken to the woodshed.....I didn't call anyone out by name. If I take a hit so be it.

PATTERN OF OBFUSCATION? A deeper look at Axanar's Annual Report. It took some time to transcribe, code, sort and analyze the data, but a pattern of possible problems emerged — from unreported salaries to ballooning costs and repeated deficit spending. Read more »
Carlos, this is an old post of mine. I didn't see you mention outside sources of money in AxaMonitor. Did I miss it, or is there too much speculation about the outside money on my part? I know you are trying to be as factual as possible and I appreciate it.

"It seems Axanar has several routes for raising money outside of Kickstarter and Indiegogo:
1. Selling merch like patches, t-shirts, blurays, etc at cons
2. Selling merch in the “Donor Store”
3. Soliciting direct donations at cons
4. Soliciting additional donations inside Ares Digital
5. Soliciting additional donations on the Axanar website aka “Retroactive Donations” wherein someone could donate an unlimited amount of money

Here’s the problem - none of this additional money is listed on the 2015 Annual Report. Only Kickstarter, Indiegogo and some Backerkit funds are listed. How much was raised via outside routes and what were the funds used for?"

Oh and I'm thinking Stripe was Backerkit. What do you think?

Oh, nvm found it.

Well done - just two questions:

Were you aware one of the major benefits of setting up your own Backerkit is to have ANOTHER donor button once the customer is inside Ares Digital. A button donors could push at any time and donate an unlimited amount of money.

Also, Axanar could have (not saying they did) asked for donations directly from fans at cons - cash, checks, cc.

Cain, I haven't forgotten about unaccounted additional revenue sources, and I'd made note of your previous post, too :) I make reference to that additional revenue in AxaMonitor's FAQs ("Does Axanar have any other income?"). I don't delve too much in the Annual Report article because I tried to focus just on the data in the report. However, future articles will take a look at that additional revenue.

I'm pretty certain Stripe, Backerkit and Kickstarter were linked. It's just that the Annual Report didn't explain that; it should've in order to make clear what its sources of income really were.

I've updated the article to explain Stripe has processed payments for Kickstarter since 2015.

Axanar. The prelude was good.

But there really wasn't much to it. Two things impressed me when I saw it: the quality of the special effects sequences and the originality of doing a talking heads fake documentary instead of a typical episode. But the story itself, meh. I bought the FASA game supplements about the Four Years War back in the day but never really bought the idea that that war belonged in canon Trek.

The show is called Star Trek for a reason. It's about exploring, not fighting, though there are obvious exceptions -- but they are exceptions, not the rule. You want lots of space battles, there's something else that tells you up front it has what you're looking for: Star Wars.

There's also one obvious problem with stories about military geniuses: if you aren't one yourself, you'll have a hard time showing your military genius in action. That's why Star Wars went with Luke Skywalker instead of a Garth-like character. He's not a genius. You get to see a more or less normal guy learn how to deal with his situation. Makes him easier to relate to, and makes telling his story a lot simpler, too. I think Axanar as a movie about the legendary Garth of Izar would be harder to pull off convincingly than its fans expect. Unless Alec Peters actually is a genius, anyway.

If Star Trek is not about fighting then the FASA STSTCS and all other tactical combat games are useless and not in keeping with Star Trek.
So why do they exist? I agree with you, but I have a question.

Sorry, should say:
