There is very little known about the new Star Trek television series beyond the fact that it will be premiering in January of next year, and that it will be executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller. Additionally, Nicholas Meyer (director of the Star Trek feature films The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country, and co-writer of The Voyage Home) is serving as a writer/consulting producer. However, CBS has created a teaser poster for the show which does exactly that...it teases the new series without revealing anything.

While we can't tell much from a teaser poster that could have been knocked up on Photoshop in 10 minutes, it is interesting that they have gone for font and logo reminiscent of the Kirk era (both in prime and reboot) not the TNG era. Mere design choice or meaningful?

So...what's that stuff in the background?

And is there confirmation that this is in fact something CBS ordered made? Looks pretty crappy to me.

I especially like the background image showing a hallway of some kind and the vague outline of what looks like somebody holding a camera. Could this be the mysterious villain of the new show?

;)

Reflections. Apparently this is a physical poster hanging on a wall somewhere, and somebody snapped a photo and it ended up in this Empire article.

Design in teaser poster similar to TOS era design.

Meyer mentions Star Trek VI as a big influence for this series.

Fuller talks about wanting to make a Star Trek set on the U. S. S. Reliant from TWoK and going to back to the original spirit of the 60s show.

It's all right in front of us! ;)

It is also the general Star Trek logo at this point... it is as others said very vague so I do not think there is anything too telling from this poster.

If it is official, they should fire whoever made it and make sure they never work again. Other than that, the genericness hurts the eyes, and the background object isn't subtle, it's terribly faded out and stretched.

Hoping it's fake, just because the idea someone was paid to make it is depressing as hell.

I'm not even convinced at this stage this is a real poster intended for release rather than just something either knocked up by a fan or intended only for the production room door or something.

Yeah, I could have done this in 5 minutes on Photoshop.

Still up in the air, but I'm leaning towards official just because it was Empire who posted it.

There is no background object in the poster graphic. If the image in the OP appears small, then you can click it to magnify, and then you can clearly see that the "background" is just a reflection of a hallway and the person who took this photo of the poster.

Then two people need to learn how to do something properly. Good grief, it just got twice as bad.

If this is legit, then that typeface is a newer version I don't think I've seen before - It's a rounded take on the TOS font. Plus, the general styling of it all (Pinkish Purple) is VERY reminiscent of The Undiscovered Country - which is is something thats been speculated as a touchstone for this show for some time now with Fullers admiration of it and Meyer's involvement.

Ed Gross wrote the article so I'm assuming it's legit.

The Logo and the font were both used in JJ trek too, so there is no telling what universe it takes place in.

Well... it's not like the poster gave any useful indication of anything whatsoever, so no big deal, I guess.

It could simply be an internal CBS poster used as promotional art for the staff that's coming together.

Edit: I see now that Trekcore is basically saying the same thing..

It's just an early industry promo. There was one for DS9 made while the show was still being developed, but in the meantime they needed something to let people in the industry know the show was coming, so they used a stock photo of Spacedock One as a placeholder while the actual station wasn't designed yet, as well as a temporary logo meant really just for local station programmers.
