So according to that, the pictures are just 'camera tests'. Does that mean that these pictures have no real relationship to what the show might look like, or would such tests be based on the ideas and directions they intend to go in?

Because based on that, it looks like we're talking 22nd century classic uniforms, a la TOS or the new movies.

Right, but what I mean is, as someone with no knowledge of Hollywood jargon, does 'camera test' mean literally just testing the cameras and maybe lighting/set ideas, therefore the costumes involved are not indicative of what the show will be? Or does camera test mean testing whether those costumes look good on camera, because we want to use them?

It could simply mean lighting, or interactivity with green screen elements.

Robert Holdsworth was clear: "Yeah they were testing out the different looks. It was a Promo for the beginning of the tv show".
"It looked really good on the monitor. Just gotta wait til January". I think he works in studio lighting, or he is camera assistant, because he said "they".

(23rd century you mean.) But where are you seeing TOS uniforms? All I'm seeing is an astronaut in a really crappy looking space suit.

Guessing, I'd say were looking at a set of the Moon with an astronaut of post Apollo, future time setting. Part of a 'history of spaceflight montage', a la Enterprise opening credits? <ducks and runs>

Based on what?

Sand? The green screen? That guy's ass crack?

You're all correct. I think I was looking at a crewman. The picture was small enough/low quality enough on my screw that his blue shirt looked like a 23rd cent. science/medical tunic, but looking closer he's clearly wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

Interesting.

“They understand the importance of Star Trek. They understand it’s the 50th anniversary. They’re not out to re-write history. They’re not out to change anything. They understand they need to do their best to keep people happy but also probably make it a little different.”
Maybe I'm projecting my own wishes onto this, but to me this seems like a hint to the prime universe show...

Given what CBS CEO Les Moonves has said, it does suggests there are now two Star Trek Universes. There is the old "Viacom/CBS Star Trek Television Universe" aka the "Prime Universe". And there is the "Paramount Star Trek Cinematic Universe" or "JJ Verse"

At least, that is what I am inferring. So if that's true, the new Trek series will be set in the Prime Universe.

I vote for a series set in the prime universe sometime after the end of TNG. Would prefer if it wasnt too far after so we might see some guest appearances from the TNG cast. My idea is that the series needs some kind of serious challenge such as a war. The Federation has been dealt a serious and surprising blow. It is reeling, forced back on its heels & splintering. But its not dead yet. The challenge is to continue to assert Federation values under duress until order is restored. Supplies and repairs are hard to come by. Many of the ships are old and held together with spit and baling wire. Challenges include dealing with different factions as well as dealing with the external threat. The original mission could be carried forward as the new cast encounters new worlds and species in their efforts to gain new allies against the external threat. Or maybe there is some mystery to be solved that could turn the course of the war.

I dont think the war should be hot all the time. It should alternate between hot and cold.

If rebooted I would like to see connection to original timeline, for example one of the crew members could be from original timeline. That character could be introduced with episode dealing with parallel universe (original timeline). Also cast/crew needs to be charismatic, something that IMHO ST Enterprise crew lacked.

Casting will be crucial. Maybe the most important thing will be characterization. The public will watch if they care about the characters.

I don't think casting will be much of an issue. Bryan Fuller's shows always have great chemistry between the cast and likeable, talented actors.

Hell, I can't see many problems this show COULD have. Fuller is the best showrunner in TV, I'm so excited to see his vision for a new Star Trek.

I just watched all of Dead Like Me on Netflix very recently (felt slightly empty afterwards) and now I'm already addicted to Wonderfalls only four episodes in. His shows are so quirky, clever, bubbly and addictive, it's hard not to get attached.

It's still kind of surreal we have Fuller helming this series, such a massive step up from the likes of Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. This is probably the first time we've ever had someone who, not only knows the Trek universe inside out, but has created and developed multiple critically acclaimed and Emmy award winning TV shows developing a new Star Trek series, with the exception of maybe Ronald D. Moore.

I hope I'm not overreacting, I'm just excited.

This may have already been posted, but I just started watching an interview with Nicholas Meyer (the savior of star trek) from 2014 and I think it may have relevance on the star trek we will be getting on television since he'll be involved.

He touches on his impression of JJs trek, and also the real world tie ins of star trek 6 and his self consciousness about how the reality was not so "End of History" like as Francis Fukuyama envisioned after the Soviets dissolved. To me it implies that the trek series will be much more rooted in science fiction rather than space fantasy like star wars and what JJ put on screen. Where contemporary issues are explored, and this sounds extremely promising.

skip to 9 minutes in for the start of the relevant discussion, I tried to link the time stamp but it did not stick.

This is what Meyers thinks. But he's working for Fuller and Kurtzman here. His ideas may be incorporated, but if Fuller and/or Kurtzman have a different idea about the direction of the show Meyers will have to go along with them.
