They really had the visuals cranked on this one, lots of color bleeding over the gothic visuals. I thought it looked great.
I thought Lori Petty was going to maybe be another proto-Joker but her character was rather unusual, wonder if we'll see her again. And Matches Malone ended up being more than your usual revenge thing as well. Bruce's monster ended up being just a shell of a man.
The ending with Bruce running off with Selina was unexpected. I'm curious where they're going to go with that and if they'll stick with it. A bit of a novel direction.

The scene with Bruce and Matches was really very well handled from an actor and directors point of view. Hugo is now my favorite over the top character on the show. Terrific job of creating that character and then letting the actor flesh him out.

They've got great pacing with Bruce... we can tell he will be Batman, but it's a slow (but logical) ride there. Interesting layer they are doing with Bruce learning the "real world" from Selina. (By the way, is he on summer break....I knw he's rich, so I guess that's why no truant officer is after him
)I hope David Marouz will be up for playing Batman in 15 years, when they're ready for another reboot. At the very least, it'll be a good paycheck to give him freedom to do more independent work. But he would be phenomenal, and if the director can wisely integrate the Gotham work into it,will be an amazing movie
And yes,Hugo Strange is great, and BD Wong and excellent choice. Definitely interested in his endgame..but hope it doesn't fall apart like Galavan (who was interesting at first, but then broke down)
Not liking Penguin & Riddler just being crazy people in "the end", but Harvey is great comic relief (yet still a real cop)
It could be the material he has to work with but I'm not convinced that the actor that plays Riddler is up to the task. He's got the look but he's so over-the-top in making him kerrrrazy though maybe that will work better once he really takes up the mantle. The question marks suggest that they are pushing that story so we may soon see.
Wow, that scene with Bruce and Malone was probably one of the best the show's ever done. This episode really felt, to me at least, like the first real step in his journey to become Batman. I really hope they follow that storyline for a while.
I'm very curious what Strange is up to.
I don't see Penguin being "cured" for very long.
Lori Petti's character was fun, and the stuff with the Maniax in the club was a nice little reminder of the role they appear to be playing in setting up the future Joker.

This was a major episode for Bruce's evolution. Great scene with Matches and I loved him going to travel the (under)world at the end. Bruce is very often a wasted character on this show, sitting around the mansion doing nothing, so this was great stuff.
And Lori Petty was another proto-Joker. She was playing images of Jerome on the screen while she played.
Also, they said the gang was called the Mutants, and my closed captioning said they chanted "Solomon Grundy"!

hmmm, interesting, I might have to watch that scene again.
I noticed the news clips in the club scene but thought they were generic and didn't notice Jerome. Or the Ha Ha Ha paper lanterns. And I missed the Maniax connection. Makes more sense though Jeri didn't fit the typical crazy type despite the getup.
When Bruce set the gun down and turned to leave, my first thought was, how stupid to do that with a murderer you've just confronted. Then I realized no, Bruce has become that smart - he'd taken Matches' measure, and he simply knew Matches wouldn't kill him. But he didn't realize Matches would kill himself.
I think it's definitely the material. They've decided cray-zee is the only reason why riddler would be doing what he's doing and how.
A saner Riddler would be realizing his CSI knowledge can make him a criminal who can succeed without being caught. I guess the needing to give Riddles is some kind of mental illness, but can be much more subtle.
Okay, my Batman history expert (a thing I am not!) at work informs me that "Matches Malone" was not a criminal in the comics, but an alias that Bruce used when working undercover in the underworld (and if that's been mentioned, please forgive me for skipping a page or two). My friend (being a purist) was disappointed to see how they used the name on the show.
My theory based on that is that Bruce will adopt the name during his stay with Selena.

I agree its #$%^&ed up that they pick Matches Malone to be his parents' killer. Please don't tell me ten years from now he's going to go undercover as his parents' murderer all the time 
Also, was I the only one who thought Matches was NOT the killer and was lying about it? He didn't seem to actually know the details of the scene. I kept flashing back to Minority Report where they paid Crow to pretend to be the guy who took Anderson's kid.

If this were any other show, I'd say there was no way they'd wrap up the Wayne murder-mystery arc by having Matches Malone be the killer instead of Joe Chill. But this is a show that turned Jim Gordon into a murderer, so I wouldn't put anything past them.

I thought about it since it seems early to wrap up that storyline. Selina witnessed the murder so maybe she can provide some detail to question it at some point. Then again, maybe it is what it is and they're going in a different direction.
