Do you think LGBT characters will feature more prominently?

If they had sex then Soren either had female genitalia or was kind enough to let him use the back door (or some other alien orifice).

We've seen so many characters living and acting heterosexual, they'll never say that everybody is living as bisexual.

Only if they take continuity seriously. And I kinda hope they don't.

But hopefully after this comes out at the least people won't be able to go around saying that gays were wiped out in Trek's utopian future, something I run into now and then that is really not cool.

If they're saying it as a criticism of the show then it is cool. Either represent homosexuality or we will mock your utopia as an oppressive eugenics nightmare.

I've never given it much thought, but just because Soren wasn't gendered doesn't mean she wasn't capable of pleasing Riker in the sack. I'm pretty sure we see them after they've had sex and Riker seemed happy and wanted a relationship with her.

She has a mouth.

It's been a while, all my hesitancy about her compatibility is from the phrase "fertilizing a Husk" which makes me think she's got a hose like Nemo's dad with that cave full of eggs the wife laid.

I vaguely assume Soren probably has an alien orifice for waste, and there's more possibilities to sex than penetration.
And most of the time when I've heard people discussing how gays are all wiped out in Trek's future they're seeing that as part of the utopia.

If there was a gay gene, which google is telling there "still" isn't, there are two obvious points that the gay gene might have been removed if Khan or Colonel Green had given a poo about homosexuality reducing the birthrates... Which they might have? Especially if they assumed that the luxury of homosexuality could be resumed after the species had re-passed the genetic diversity/sustainability threshold... Although being allowed to regain Gayness through chemical surgery might be a reward for producing X number of children, or a retirement plan after the fertile years had passed. This is weeks after WWIII, healthy gay persons would be expected to take a couple for the team (donations and artificial insemination would be fine.) otherwise the species would have died out. Khan on the other hand was trying to increase the birth rate of supermen and decrease the birthrate of homo-sapiens so that there would be a manageable ratio between supermen and men, so Khan might have been in a position to increase the population of homosexuals among homosapiens, to give homosuperior a chance to catch up and replace the %1.

Although, if the gay gene can be removed or forced into a recessive state through science, then it can be added or forced into a dominant state through the same bad imaginary future science.

A gay bomb (the US military spent millions in the 1970s looking into this) might be a weird way of sterilizing a species, or a selfadministering a Gay-Pill might "trick" yourself to enjoying an unbalanced orgy... Bad fake science.

Sorry? Where was I?

Just because she has holes, it doesn't mean that there is any chance of pleasure from plumbing those holes. Would you let someone put their dick up your nose? The prostate (joy button) is (sorta) at the bottom of the anal cavity, and the women pretend that anal is fun so that they won't accidentally get pregnant to an asshole, so yeah, sodomy happens for good reasons.

I really should rewatch the episode before I comment any more on how their bodies might unexpectedly interlock.

I tend to see sarcasm in all things. I've generally assumed they were being ironic and mocking the show (maybe they weren't).

We're assuming he's putting things in her holes. Maybe she was putting things in his. A bisexual culture would certainly help when it comes to hastily jumping into bed with an unknown alien and their unknown apparatus.

There are studies that have shown that women with gay brothers have more children and tend to be more attractive to the opposite sex for what that's worth.
Also, Greg Cox's Eugenics novels showed that Kahn's followers included a male couple, so same sex relationships were on the table for them. Artificial insemination is so simple I can't see how orientation would have to be a stumbling block for reproduction.

Humans were designed to have intimate sex.

Her species was not?

Our foetuses are incubated in fibrous husks, which the parents inseminate. From what we know of other species, our method is less risky and less painful.

(They make a husk to jack off into and their combined seminal fluids mix up into a baby. I'm wondering what happens if more than two people spank into the husk? Really this might be more like spawning that each husk might make hundreds of babies, unless they eat or absorb each other until like highlander this is only one?)

Do I really have to plug in my science fiction hard drive?

Crawling around on my bloody hands and knees.

Okay. It's playing. I'm watching.

"Commander, tell me about your sexual organs."

What a minx!!

So then she get's a concussion, and Beverly pumps her full of steroids.

That flavours everything that follows!

Sorrin claims that everything that follows is a pre-existing condition that's been around since childhood, and... When did they do it? I just finished watching the episode, albeit not very attentively. They kissed in the garden after the congratulations mission accomplished party, he makes sure that Dee won't commit suicide if he has a full time live in girlfriend, then he goes down for a second date, and interrupts Sorrin's trial to burn off the lady bits in her brain.

Where was the sex?

She may have a girl brain, but the scripts says that she "inseminates" which means penis... And Riker was fine with that. :)

Reproduction is not the same as repopulation (after WWIII) or creating a new species from nothing (the Augments.), but yes, if the technology is available which it may not have been after WWIII or during the Eugenics War as it was before atomic bombs started falling form the sky, artificial wombs and binary clones should have solved problems caused from 3/4's of humanity dying off, if not for the Eugenics war, which would have put serious restrictions on how children were made in test tubes that any children seen to be too radiation proof would be stoned for being a superman.

There is not a gay gene.

The technology was mostly always available, and the Vulcans probably couldn't tell the difference between still civilized human beings and those who had descended into barbarism, as they rebuilt the Earth for us. You saw what "people" looked like, and acted like in Encounter at Far Point, in ten years without help, they were going to forget how to make fire.

maybe colonel green wiped em out during his post apocalypse crusade
na

or maybe they didn't wanted to screw up there incredibly lucrative franchise
with the rating killer that was "godam queers"

Colonel Green checked for cell mutation from radiation, but he probably also might have fragged anyone with glaring congenital illnesses like Parkinsons, Red Hair and Cystic Fibrosis to purify the species.

Colonel Green wasn't worried about population numbers, or the rate at which man was repopulating, he was worried about quality control. Extracting the dead weight that he did, pragmatically, Green probably added decades to the life expectancy of permitted (green lit) survivors' descendants.

sorry
joking about colonel green
he was all about the mutants.

red hair was an illness?

In the future they'll edit out the gene that results in red hair, just like they did with the gene that makes gays.

A future without redheads is the hopeful future that mankind has always dreamed of. They were the root of all our troubles and hostilities. With them gone, we shall finally know peace.

Sexuality is complicated. Years ago an NPR program called The DNA Files discussed it, and some researchers think orientation isn't as simple as a single gene, but a whole bunch of genes whose expression results in that spectrum (not merely a false gay or straight binary) which determines attraction. It might be related to a combination of genes which might also influence which colors and sounds and smells and tastes an individual is genetically predisposed to respond to.

Is there a sit-home-all-day-masturbatin'-watching-Star-Trek-reruns gene?

Becuase if there is, to me that feels like a Gene that needs special protection.
