AP, after a time, you may find that having just a few rabid fans is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting them. It is not logical, but it is often true.

Since when was Peters a professional actor or producer. I ask again, can you just start a business which you have zero professional experience in and declare yourself a professional? If I decide to get money from investors (or worse--donors) and open up a painting business, do I suddenly become a painting PROFESSIONAL?

Yes, because it's your profession.

"Professional" doesn't necessarily mean higher competence or better quality, as clearly demonstrated by all the crappy professionally-produced low-budget miniseries and movies that have been played on SyFy over the years, as well as the "mockbuster" industry. It's all professional.

But it's NOT his profession. He has zero experience. I can't say I'm a doctor, pay myself as a doctor, and then start treating people.

You don't need years of medical school to become a Hollywood producer.

I guess my point is being missed. Peters says everyone is professional but I am calling him out on the notion that declaring something your profession isn't a thing if no one has every paid for your services in that profession.

He also claimed he did it because Garth would have been somewhat younger at this time than when he played him in "Prelude".

Nah. I think it has more to do with what a terrible actor he is and how long it probably took them to shoot those vignettes at the NV stage... in November.

He has no professional credits to his name. He appears as Garth a few times on New Voyages/Phase II and in all the Axanar related films.

Other than that, he appears in two short films (playing characters with no names, so they must have been integral!) and which were likely related to his acting classes with Richard Hatch.

Other than that, his experience is entirely in the world of tie-in and fan films. I've been working in TV for a decade and I still don't know half as much as most people. That Peters could think he knows enough, let alone everything is laughable to anyone with any actual experience.

Sure you can. You'll just get in big trouble for practicing medicine without a license.

But you don't need a license, or even any real experience, to finance and make movies. Of course, without any experience, you will probably end up making a steaming pile of garbage of the same level of quality as Manos: The Hands of Fate. But you're still a professional. :techman:

You happen to have hit on a protected profession - you can't claim to be a doctor unless you are and you can't work as one without the appropriate licence.
Movie producer, actor, film maker, whatever he wants to call it, are not protected or controlled. A professional producer is one who is paid to produce. A professional actor is one who is paid to act. He's paying himself to produce so by the strictest definition he is doing so professionally. Terribly, but professionally.

That is technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

The well-known attorney Melvin Belli was not an experienced actor, but he was paid to act as the glowing green villain in a dress in the TOS episode "And the Children Shall Lead." Therefore, he professionally acted during that time.

so AP is tweeting that

1) Axanar Productions built nothing but a soundstage, just like other fan productions
2) "Ares Studio" is only a nickname for that soundstage.
3) they are not a movie studio, just a non-profit production with a soundstage.
4) the reason they want to use it again is because AP personally signed the lease and the remaining 2 years are not yet paid for (implying he might pay for them)

Misdirection, misdirection, misdirection.

1) they built production offices. they built production infrastructure (buying computer equipment as shown in tweets where it said equipment is being used to do editing). they ran a half million dollar kickstarter just to fund "building infrastructure" and pay rent.
2) Ares Studio is the only "studio" operation that is located in that building, when one looks at the crowdfunding appeals and asks, what studio buildout for future productions are you talking about?
3) ^&*(^&* "non-profit". Prove it. This has a very specific legal meaning, you *cannot* just throw the term around any way you want.
4) really? tell the donors that the facility will be paid for personally in the future, not from present or future donor money.
