Bowling

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Anyone else here go bowling on a regular basis.

I don't bowl league (yet) but I do try to go in a few times a week to the various alleys and get some practice in. Some days when I'm doing well I think it helps. Prior to this year I had never broken 100, I managed to do that several times and got as high as 134 one day.

I used to bowl in a junior league. They were fun and my highest game ever was a 201. I don't do that anymore and I probably should.

I used to bowl all the time when I was a kid and in my teenage years. My whole family was into it. When I got to high school I kinda lost interest and never picked it back up. I kinda miss it, though, maybe I'll try and get back into it.

My highest score is 224.

I'm in a weekly bowling beer league. Get handicaps, so you don't have to be awesome to compete, just gotta be consistent really. Around a 140 average, get into the 160-175 range when I'm going decent. Unfortunately, my high score is in a terrible slot: 199. Couldn't get that last damned pin to break 200... :(

I used to, but now it's more usually a bank holiday thing. I used to be fair at it but I'm way out of practice now:(

^I once hadn't bowled a frame in 20 years, struck on the first ball thrown.

My average last time I bowled was as usual at about 150. Best game ever was 289 and I broke one pin during it.

These days bowling is too expensive. Not that I couldn't afford a game if I wanted to play one, I simply refuse to pay today's outrageous fees.

Yeah, i pay $11 a night in the league, which gets me 3 games with money to spare to fund the trophies, cash prizes, and a banquet at the end. Pretty cheap night out...

Well, I used to average 5 or 6 strikes per game. Now I'm lucky if I get to 100. However, the group I usually play with have also averaged out the same way.

At our local alley, I think it is currently £10 per person for three games.

I don't get to bowl enough, dang it. Last I went was for my birthday last year. I'd love to bowl more often though.

But that is League prices, I don't want to be in one anymore. Open lane bowling prices are insane. It's only bowling.

That's about $14 US. To ME, that's too much. Like I said, it's only bowling. Three games at $10 including shoes total each person sounds more fair.

Anyway, full disclosure, my throwing shoulder isn't what it used to be. A case of frozen shoulder in that arm has left me weary of re-aggravating it. I should have just said so to start with.

How do you break a pin? That's funny.

After it was recovered they brought the pin for me to see. It was very old, they explained, had probably developed a hairline fracture that the ball struck just right.

I asked if I could have it as a souvenir but nope, they would get a free replacement with return to manufacturer.

That's a bummer. If I broke a pin I would be clamoring the guy at the place if I could take it home as a memento. It would be a highlight of my Bowling life. ;)

That sort of price would be nice - and I'd probably go more.

One thing I did notice the last time we went though was the computer now has an average speed monitor for each shot. That threw out some interesting results.

Absolutely. The pin framed in a shadow-box along with the (now lost) score sheet would have been quite the memento of that day.

I got my tax refund back today so I spent a little bit of it on a bowling ball, which I have named Roll Fizzlebeef.

I went and bowled for an hour after getting the ball and I did better today than I have been doing. Had four games where I bowled over 100. Usually I don't do quite that well.

I used to bowl at least once a week when I was in high school. Had my own ball and shoes. I don't think I've gone in about 6 years.

I would give almost anything to be able to bowl again, but arthritis in the fingers and wrist prevents me. :wah:

Maybe I'll buy a plastic set, or go back to duckpins (which I haven't bowled since I was 12).

I used to bowl in a league when I was a kid. I have a box of trophies somewhere in the garage from my Glory Days.

I broke 200 a few times. I haven't been in many years. I would probably suck badly now.
