Is TrekBBS the last of the great scifi message boards?

It could also be that some people have felt they have said everything they needed to say on the subject and find they are just repeating themselves. That happened to me in the Tolkien fandom. It was fun but I don't know how many times I could keep debating certain topics over and over.

I used to hang out on comic-book and XENA message boards as well, but, I know what you mean about how the same damn topics kept coming up--and being run into the ground. How many times can you debate whether Xena & Gabby were just friends or not, or who the best Green Lantern is, and not go mad?

And this is why I tend to stay away from threads about how exactly the Federation's economy works . . . :)

I thought you were suggesting that the Federation ran on zero hours contracts and workfare for a moment then... No money just your credits for doing assigned work.

Sounds about right. But in all seriousness, given how we seem to stumble from one economic problem in the real world, who's to say a fictional economy like that in Star Trek would be any different.

Oh and I used to hangout on the now defunct SFX forum before finding this place and sticking around.

First forum I was on was the old book forum on Simon & Schuster site where there was discussion on the Trek books and the authors and editors would appear. But over time everyone seems to have drifted here and I followed when the Doctor Who subforum opened.

I don't think I agree with the people saying that there is too much negativity/nasty comments on the internet. If anything, I get more annoyed by some of the forced politeness & passive-aggressiveness on TrekBBS sometimes. The internet is such an abstract form of communication, colorful language & arguments are not that big of a deal, imo.

The great thing about usenet of old was the lack of moderation. Ignoring the spam, this meant

The other great thing was people tended to use their real names, and not hide behind "nom de plumes". Perhaps it's rose tinted glasses, but things like youtube comments just didn't exist on usenet. You had spam, sure, but I never saw any personal abuse

While it doesn't have a Pirate theme I still stick around... I do agree that the old days were much nicer..

I miss Usenet a great deal (I made a lot of friends on alt.tv.star-trek.voyager) but this board is an excellent substitute. I've made friends here as well. :techman:
