An all-new novel from New York Times bestselling author James Swallow set in the popular universe of Star Trek: The Original Series!

The five-year mission of the Starship Enterprise has brought the vessel and her crew to the forefront of an important first contact situation. Under the command of Captain James T. Kirk, the ship is heading to the planet Syhaar Prime in the Beta Quadrant—the home world of an alien civilization preparing to take its first steps on to the galactic stage. One year earlier, the Enterprise came across a badly damaged Syhaari explorer vessel drifting in deep space. In collaboration with the explorer’s captain, Kirk and his crew were able to restore the ship to full function and send it on its way. And now, as the Syhaari display rapid technological advances made over the past year, hard questions must be asked. Did the Enterprise crew leak advanced technology or information to the Syhaari during their first encounter, in total violation of the Prime Directive?

The book should start to appear in stores sometime next week if the past is any indication and the authot copies seem to have hit England a week ago already, so I figured it couldn't hurt to have the Review Thread ready.

A lot of times the physical books will start to show up a week or two before the release date. It's only the really big releases, like Harry Potter, that are only released on that specific date.
The e-book usually aren't available until the release date.

As @JD said usually the physical books are shipped to the book sellers a week+ in advance and many stock them when they arrive, so usually the Trek Books are available in bookstores and on Amazon significantly earlier then the "street date". I would be very surprised if we don't have the first sightings middle of next week at the latest.

I would appreciate Amazon shipping early but do not expect it.

When I still gbought the physical books Amazon.de often was among the first to ship new Trek books, no idea if that is still the case.

Yes, it was one of the best Star Trek novels, at least when it comes to TOS.

So it's all a show. Anyway, whenever I'll order it, there is still too little time for reading these novels....

No interest in the TOS era, but I thought James Swallow did such a good job with his Valeris novel and his Titan novel that I pre-ordered this.

James Swallow did give me a tease that there are some connections with the wider Litverse in this story, but didn't go into specifics. Thought I'd mention that in case it interests anyone who is on the fence about buying this one.

I'm reading this one right now. One of those rare TOS books that I read during the release month.

Anyway, as for the date of this book, it is between "Turnabout Intruder" and "Yesteryear" (can't think of TAS' first episode, although YY can be considered the first episode of TAS in LA). The first part of the story I found moved rather slowly, and it's only now that I see the author has introduced a Planet Of The Apes vs. Geico Geckos battle!

Oh, yeah, and the back cover write-up only talks about what is essentially a B-Plot (might even be a C-plot). It's really the catalyst for the A-plot.

I just finished it last night. I voted Average. The story was interesting, but not really one of those that was remarkable. Plus a lot of the time I felt like the characters were acting and saying stuff like the characters from "GalaxyQuest", where they wouldn't mention episode numbers but would say "remember on Janus six". Some people might call it too much Trek porn.
