Spoilers Supergirl - Season 1

Jesse L Martin and Calista were lovers on Ally McBeal.

If there has to be lovelorn angst denied, separated by a dimensional membrane, why not those two?

To justifying buying a superbowl ad, Supergirl would have to more than triple their audience next week.

30-second commercials for the first Super Bowl in 1967 cost a measly$42,000, but that average broke the $1 million barrier in 1995 and hit a record high of $4.5 million in 2015. CBS is charging $5 million for ads in 2016, or $166,666 per second.

Or does CBS hand out a number free adspots for it's own programming which it thinks could find a larger audience, during the Superbowl which is aired on CBS?

I suppose every producer would put a case forward for why their show deserves a free Superbowl ad, and then someone makes a decision, by picking 5 percent of the shows that put in a tender for a free adbuy?

Of course it's all or nothing.

If you accept the free ad, and then get no improvement in ratings, you'll be axed.

Finally watched the latest episode (from last week, obviously). We don't get to see Bizarro much in live action, and this was easily worse than the Smallville version. It doesn't help that Max Lord, the second worst villain in any Berlanti show (the first being Cat Grant), gets so much involvement and screentime this episode. Lord is like a cheap rip off of Lex Luthor, only a lot less clever and a lot worse at hiding his evil activities. It makes me wish they had Wonder Woman on this show, so she could do to him what the comic version of Wonder Woman did to Maxwell Lord :shifty: Overall, another bad episode of a terrible show that not even Supergirl or Martian Manhunter (the only good characters on the show) can save from mediocrity. Is it March yet? :sigh:

:D Network promotional spots are not paid for. :techman:

That's what I thoguht. I thought Networks would use that huge platform to promote their shows, and I think maybe they should have put Supergirl on after the game instead of Colbert. As for my question, it was more they have this most watched event, and the fact that they aren't advertising the series during it makes me think they are not confident in the show and it may be cancelled after this season. That would be a shame as I really like the show, but it's not the most critically friendly show out there.

...and that's never going to happen.

Coincidentally, while Supergirl did not have any ads during Super Bowl 50 (which suggests the demo for Supergirl might not have the broad appeal found in Super Bowl audiences), there was a spot for Captain America: Civil War. So, the competition has an ad on "Supergirl's network" during one of the biggest ratings events in the world, yet CBS' superhero series was nowhere to be found.

Interesting.

^^
What kind of competition are Supergirl and Captain America: Civil War supposed to be in?

DC live action superhero productions.

Marvel live action superhero productions.

Don't think WB's push to get--for example--a JLA film launched (or DoJ, if you prefer) had nothing to do with The Avengers' effect.

Supergirl is not outside of the discussion / comparison of the wave of comic movies / TV spilling on the audiences of today.

Supergirl did have a Super Bowl ad. I don't recall the exact time it aired, but I definitely remember seeing it while I was watching the game.

Here it is:

I did not see that during the game.

The only ad I did see was just promoting the entire monday line up.

Weird song cover in that ad. I'm aware of the original version of the song (although I kind of wish I weren't) -- whoever did this cover changed its sound quite a bit.

I couldn't find the exact version in the Supergirl ad, but it's similar to a version by Until the River Breaks that was used on the show Stalker (which was not a good show), which would always end the show with a slow, moody cover of pop songs from the 70s and 80s.

You know you're not obligated to watch, right? ;) Especially if it clearly pains you that much.

Personally I have so many great shows to watch or catch up on these days that I don't have time anymore for something I'm not in some way enjoying.

It was during the 4th quarter. I believe it was somewhere around 6 minutes left on the game clock.
